Need Advice on Twitching Legs

Just rolled up my trouser and my calves are still twitching away, I have that crawly feeling of loads of twitching but can't particularly feel each one... I can see loads of activity. My legs actually feel a big shaky too... Although I am still able to run up and down the stairs etc a lot of BFS can't really be explained..

Yes that does help, thank you. I'm sure you're right about the anxiety, mine is through the roof and I am obsessed with my twitching, I count every one and get so low about my muscle pain. I've just got back from town and my right thigh is sore and my left knee is constantly twitching, I probably only walked 3/4 of a mile! Soo annoying! I don't want to take medication for my anxiety but I feel like I'm at the point now when I may have to. I'm so glad I have you all to talk to, thank you.

I walked down my street about 100 yards to get ice cream for my 2yo girl and I carried her back and forth... When I got home and she got down my right bicep was really sore but it passed after 3/4 mins... It's just natural to feel pains but most people would ignore it and not register the feeling but as you are hyper vigilant you notice and note everything !! I am the same, I can feel my pulse on various points on my body just by focusing on a certain spot ...

Maybe it's unrelated ? I've had back pain on and off at the base on the right side for 4 years but about 7 weeks ago its moved to the left buttock and its always there really sore... Worse at weekends when I'm sitting about on the sofa at home relaxing !! Sore when I wake, it throbs and radiates a little bit lower and towards my groin ! No idea why it's happened or moved... Ibuprofen 400mg doesn't even seem to work.. So pain can be for various reasons..

When I have a lot of twitching in a specific area (larger muscles) for longer periods of time (such as 1-3 days) I usually get very sore, with stiffness. I can imagine that if these twitches were constant, 24/7, I would be extremely sore, constantly. I guess it's quite normal for this "condition", some have twitches they can barely feel, others have more painful ones, with cramps, sore muscles etc.

I didn't have pain or soreness too at first. That started after about 2 years of twitching for me. Now it comes and goes. I wouldn't worry though, I think it's normal that a muscle that is constantly working would start hurting or being sore at some point. :) I have however a sharp nerve pain that shoots out from my back down through my right buttock, thigh and all through my leg down to my toes. My neuro said my twitching was probably because of this pinched nerve, but that didn't show up until the last couple of months and I've been twitching for years and all over. OptimisticGuy, perhaps it's a pinched nerve causing the pain? From what I've heard it usually causes one sided pain but it can cause pain on both sides..

That's what I feel it is Tasnim... It's kinda the same pain that was on the other side for the 4 previous years and its moved but I've been told back pain can move and pain in the buttock can actually be back related but the pain is in the buttock or leg... I think I over stretched it about 7 weeks ago and it just got more painful as the weeks went on..

Tasnim,I have read here that a thing called kinesiotherapy is helpful sometimes in order to slowly relax muscles which suffer form years of incorect positioning or so. it means use of special sticky tapes adhered to the various parts of the body, giving the muscles small and slowly dosed load... Our fellow Chrissi had used that and said it was rather good for her, so suppose you can PM her toget more details.

Thank you yuliasir, I was under the impression you're only supposed to twitch when a muscle is relaxed,I'm glad to be proven wrong. X

nope, usually mine for example twitch in respond on exertion, and at the same time moving a muscle helps to reduce twitching.

Amylou, the answer seems very simple for me:if you are physically fit and still can use your body as you did it before, and if any clinical inspection or test does not reveal anything suspicious - it is OK meaning it is not ALS or other MND.and it is NOT OK becasue it affects your spiritual part. It definitely does not harm your body, but it ruins your soul, your mental fintess and generally much of your life. So here is your enemy number 1 :) As for me of course. My idea is that people in whom fear and health preoccupation dominates in their BFS picture (not all BFSers are so upset and obsessed, however wast majority are of course), strongly benefit ususally from concentrating on fears as main trouble and life quality deteriorating factor, not on twitches. usually after certain active work on fears twitches subside to minimal level - it had happened to me, to Chrissi, to Johnnythejet, to SuzyQ, add here anybody who comes once per year to say 'hi another twitching year over' etc.

Well I've had blood work and a ct and MRI of the brain, they were normal, but as far as I know mnd wouldn't show up on any of these any way. Yes I can still do anything I did before but I know ache and have stiffness, I also have a weak feeling in my left arm but can still use it, it just hurts? X

yes, regular bloodwork and static MRI does not show typical patterns for anxiety disorders (one need fMRi maybe to see if there is a shortcut to amygdala causing us to react over emotionlly) but fortunately there are clear behavioral signs and physiological symptomes (mostly from autonomous system and sensory nerves) to indicate stress and anxiety. You may use one good rule of thumb developed by ALS sufferes (as far as I know) to describe their status: FAILING NOT FEELING. If you feel your hand is weak (as I do right now for example), do simple test for fine motorics - try to pick up small object, turn a page in the book etc. Perceived weakness usually does not prevent us from those elaborate and finely tuned actions (however we think they are simple), but clinically weak fingers would simply not be able to do that.Clinically weak foot drops. Clenically weak upper leg cannot support the body. You should not jump or walk in sitting postion or walk miles on your tiptoes - just try to stand up on your toes for a second. Doing that? you are fine/ Can put your weight on heels? Fine. That is all. Fail to do this and this failure is constant - well, it is worth to go to doctor. That is all, Amylou. My hands FEEL weak becasue I am badly sencitive to cold and becasue I am working with them 12 hours a day. but I can pick up small things so I know their vessels are just spasmed due to cold and they ARE really ice cold right now (bad circualtion I think). So please use this rule of thumb, never do exhausting selftests (becasue abnormalities are so that they revela at simplest and easiest actions) and look for fears treatment, and I am sure you would feel much better.
