2 Years On: Calf Twitching Update

Hi,exactly 2 years ago after a bike ride my left calf started constantly twitching, after a few days I googled twitching as we all do and scared myself stupid. I found this forum and the people on here were a fantastic help and after 4 months or so I finally got to see a neurologist who then...

    Follow-ups for BFS Diagnosis?

Hi Shelley I wouldn't think you need an EMG after 1 year of fascics and a clean neuro exam, I too have what has been diagnosed as a S1 nerve problem causing my calf and leg to go 24/7 (must admit I did have an EMG which pointed to a back injury). Your symptoms sound similar to mine as my...

    Common Struggles with Pain

Hi, your story sounds similar to mine. My calf started going 24/7 4 months ago after a long bike ride and also random twitches else where. I to have a history of back problems but like yourself I was terrified by the thought of this being nasty. To cut a long story short I saw a neuro and had...

    Anxiety Over Long-Term Twitching

Hi Nick, I've had a calf twitch for 11 weeks non stop now around 3-5 twitches per second and had an EMG last week which didn't show ALS, other people on here have twitched for years in one spot and are still fine. Hope this helps. Pete

Sciatica: Pain in Butt & Foot

sounds like sciatica to me, the pain in the butt and foot are caused by back injury and the muscles around the injured back go into spasm causing your back to seize. Chiro should confirm this tomorrow. I've had experience of back problems and this sounds very familiar. The chiro should sort you...

    Twitching and Calf Cramps

The reason I was thinking of a MRI is because at the neuro exam he said that I had slight loss of muscle mass in my right calf, if this continues I may have reduced strength in that leg. Personally I do not want any back surgery if it can be avoided so hopefully it can be resolved by a physio or...

    Twitching Increases When Relaxed?

My calf goes 24/7 but other twitches are only noticeable when relaxing, my neuro described these as benign.

Neuro Report: Normal Gait, Speech, and Higher Function

I arrived home tonight to find the report from the neuro which is as follows; He has no swallowing or breathing difficulty nor does he have any muscle wastage. He does have florid fasciculations affecting the right calf and there was subtle reduction of muscle bulk affecting the right...

    Calf Twitching: Worried or Normal?

Hi people, Sorry to trouble you again, I'm just having a bit of a crisis at the moment, I thought I was strong and have been reading up on an als forum looking for reassurance/information but have managed to scare myself by reading of people who’s first symptom was twitching not weakness...

    MRI for Nerve Entrapment/Disc Issues?

Have any of you folks had a MRI done to look for nerve entrapment or disc problems? Just wondering if that would be the next step provided that the EMG shows no problems. Pete

    ALS: Weakness Before Twitching?

When I saw the neuro last week I asked that very question, his reply was that weakness / atrophy are usually the initial symptom but not always and that is why he has requested an EMG. He did say that from the clinical exam he didn't think it was MND but the EMG will rule it out (hopefully).

Cycling Club European Ride: GP Opinion?

Thanks Diego4Life, that is very reassuring (or maybe not when we put so much faith in these guys). I think the biggest problem I have is keeping things in perspective and not making the proverbial mountains out of molehills.
