Hi allI haven't looked at this site for a while - nice to see some familiar names still hanging around!I am over 2 years into BFS now and have pretty much mastered the art of ignoring the symptoms, which remain moderate to severe but, once the health anxiety had subsided, it was a lot easier to push the symptoms into the background.I am curious to know whether my 4 month history of a persistent metallic taste in my mouth has anything to do with my BFS or is a completely different thing. I think it was triggered by a short course of antibiotics at the time but the symptom, which is really unpleasant, remains rather severe long after I finshed these.Apart from those of you who have this symptom as a side effect of a medication prescribed for BFS, are there any other people with BFS out there who also get this symptom (dysgeusia as it's called in the trade).CheersSimon
 
I never had a metallic taste in my mouth but I wanted to say it's nice to see you back on the board. I was wondering how you were doing.
 
I don't know whether it's a metallic taste or a bitter taste but I've had it for the duration of these symptoms and maybe a bit longer. I think it abated somewwhat when I was taking doxycycline but came back when the doxy ran out. For me it's three years, still have symptoms but choose to ignore everything til I keel over dead.Sandra
 
I've got it Simon, and I havnt taken a single med for over 3 yrs so I know its not from anything like that. I dont really have a theory on this one, but I can tell you that it kicked in just after my other symptoms did back in February, but some days are worse with it than others. So good to see you on here, it was a pleasant surprise longing on and seeing a post from you.Hope you and your family have been getting along well.Take Care SimonRobynn :D)
 
Hi Simon it is nice to see you hope you and your family are well. The only antibiotic which has left a metallic taste for me was bioxin but that went away soon after stopping the medication. I take meds for my bfs but don't notice anything metallic from them. However I do notice when my mouth is dry some metallic taste and this could very well be from my medications. Maybe it is just one more bfs symptom that is new because as we all know they are never ending.Mary
 
Hi Simon - you sound good (worrying about mouth tastes is ramped down compared to much of what we see here!) I never had this except for after the dentist but I see it (smell/taste) on my hubby occasionally - especially when he has gone a while without eating or is a bit dehydrated - funny though that he doesn't notice it unless I point it out. When you have the metallic taste does your wife notice it? With him, after he hydrates and has a bite it goes away - although he gets a little creeped out when I haven't seen him all day and I say something like 'hmmm, you skipped lunch again today didn't you?' :p
 
Simon great to see you back. Are you cured?? :) If distraction is part of the cure you have certainly tested that theory! ;) Hope you and the family are doing more than ok.I have had this metallic thing a couple of times. I thought it was my fillings letting out some nasty or corroding...but then it went away, so I forgot about it. Do you think BFS is upsetting the sensations in your tongue, based on the whole nerve sensitivety thing?Other than that cant offer any suggestions..great to see you 'back on the boards' cheersRodger
 
Thanks all for your feedback about this. As regards the metallic taste thing, I am guessing that it in my case it is unrelated to my BFS because it didn't come on until I'd had BFS for well over a year. But it is interesting to hear that a few others have experienced this symptom too so maybe there is some link with BFS after all. Thanks all for asking after me - that was very nice of you and much appreciated. My BFS symptoms remain pretty much unchanged - they could be somewhat milder although I think it is more a case of me getting better at ignoring them. Ironically, the stress of losing our house in the September earthquake has perhaps been helpful in that there hasn't really been time to think about twitching etc! My family and I are bearing up well enough and are moving on with our lives, although there's a quite a bit of hassle with going through the insurance processes to get our house rebuilt. I will try to drop into this site from time to time but am keeping busy at the moment with sorting things out after the EQ. I wish you all the very best.RegardsSimon
