Welcome! Advice Needed on Twitching Muscles

Hi everybody,
just managed to register and would be really grateful if someone could give me some advice on this.

I am a fairly recent twitcher (started two weeks ago in my upper back/ shoulder) and did the stupidest thing in my entire life - googled the words twitching muscles! you know what it came up with :(

Thing is, when the twitching starts (it happens two or three times a day) I can stop it by changing the position of my arm. it then subsides.

I have a lot of pain in my arm, quite near where the twitching occurs.

Does anyone know if this ability to stop the twitching is in any way significant?

BTW i have no weakness and am doing an awful lot of unecessary exercises just to prove it

From what I have read, I can tell you that ALS twitches are NOT positional. Also, pain is not typical in ALS either, especially in the early stages. That should help you relax a bit.

If I were to play amateur doctor, I would say it sounds to me like you have somehow irritated a nerve or slightly damaged a muscle. IMHO, it would be worthwhile to get a physician to check it out, but I don't see anything in your post that suggests any type of serious condition.

Good luck!

Absolutely. I also get twitches in the area of my shoulder blades, and it does seem to stop when I move. To me, that also sounds like a pretty benign place to start twitching. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to work for me with finger twitches—they seem to have a mind of their own.

Cheers,
Bill

Changing position also sometimes stops the twitching. Sometimes when my shoulder muscle twitches I'll excersice my muscle briskly/quickly and then stop only to find out the twitching stops too. But I've also noticed sometimes when I change position the twitching is still there but its much harder to notice.

Thank you for such quick responses, I feel better already :D)

I have seen my GP who told me to wait two weeks and then come back 2 see him. seems like a lifetime tho when you have a specific worry.

Wishing you all peace and a twitch free night XX

I don't notice twitching of any kind when I'm in the gym using the muscles. In fact, my calves seem to "calm down" for hours afterwards. Problem is, 2 days later, they go crazy (exercise intolerance?)

Is it typical of BFS to have twitching mostly when the muscle is at rest?
