Weird Throat/Neck Twitches?

I have had some weird places like tongue and ear, but the throat is freaking me out! Does anyone else get throat or neck twitches?

I have read numerous posts on here about people with tounge twitches. I have not had the ear twitch but definately in the neck. I had one on my jawline just the other day and on some days a twitch in my neck that would be set off whenever I would yawn. It's completely normal for this wonderful condition :)

Thanks! Ya this throat one scared me. The ear one drives me batty! It sounds like a giant moth fluttering in my ear! Ha ha crazy!

Yes, I have had neck twitches, not all that often, but I do have them. It's like for me, the most active places are my calves/feet, and then my neck up. I get the ear thumps several times a day.

Honestly like some days are way better then others and I cannot figure it out what sets the twitches off. Today I feel like one giant twitch, both my calves are going and feet which are moving my toes from side to side, the back of my calves up by my knees, my neck feels twitchy and my arms and back even! Those dang arm tremors today too! I have already taken magnesium and tried to be calm, which I thought I was! I drank lots of water and had my gatorade so no idea why I am super twitchy today!

I can find no rhyme or reason to it, except that I'm definitely worse when I've had coffee. Today I skipped caffeine completely (it was brutal) and I feel less twitchy. But, other than that, I have been keeping a journal ranking my twitching from 1-10 and in the past year I've had huge fluctations. I have tried to map it to sleeping, eating, etc. but still have found no common denominator. Perhaps it's hormonal?MItra

You aren't alone. I, too, am experiencing the dreaded throat twitching. It's awful. I thought the tongue was bad but this takes the cake for me. Started with some tightening in the back of my throat, like it was tensing and then releasing. It went away after a few days (wonder if it's because I didn't sit there obsessing it). Then it returned unexpectedly about 3 weeks later and has been continuous for close to 3 weeks now. It will be 3 weeks Monday. Now I get what feels like the soft palate twitching in the back and sometimes jumping, pinching, and what feels like movement/twitching up and down my throat. I am at my wit's end. I started taking an extra anxiety pill for it which reduced symptoms, but then unfortunately they are back full force.

Yes, I know those symptoms all too well! For me it would come and go like that too, I started getting this really tight muscle feeling in my throat almost every day all day and had to put an ice pack or a heating pad around my neck to distract myself it got so bad. Best thing I found was I used some peppermint oil or sometimes some Vicks and rubbed it on my neck and tried to distract myself and it worked and the longer I do not think about it then the longer the symptoms would stay away! Try it and see! Also, I was doing push ups like every day and sitting in front of the computer and I found if I did not do those things also that helped me as I think I was holding a lot of muscle tension and bad posture. Hope that helps :D)

Hi,Thanks so much for replying! I am so relieved to hear someone else has this. I was afraid I was the only one and by fluke I had BFS but then randomly got you know what. Did yours feel like an internal tightening of the throat? People tell me I have globus but I tell them this is definitely happening internally. It's almost like an internal hiccup at times. It's just so hard to describe it. My doctor just attributed it all to stress and didn't even want me to see a neuro. I am seeing her today to talk to her about this and then a neuro next Friday. I'm nervous because it's been almost 2 years since I saw one.

I have not seen a neuro for a formal work up either nor have I had an EMG. I have seen a neuro who specializes in neuro biofeedback and had an EEG of my brain because my doctor referred me there for anxiety. Two doctors have said all of my symptoms are due to anxiety, but I still think BFS too on top of the anxiety. You know my throat twitches started with what felt like a tickle in my throat then it progressed to what I know for sure were throat twitches then the neck throat tightness. I never had any trouble swallowing or anything like that, but I did feel like my tongue was very tired no idea why I attributed it to clenching and grinding my teeth and holding my muscles tight with lots of tension and like I said it went away. My doctor said my neck muscles were very tight and I was doing that myself! If your symptoms come and go like mine and most other people's on this board I would say it cannot be anything serious because I try to keep telling myself those type of serious symptoms would not come and go they would stick around and get worse not get better.

Honestly I don't blame you for not going to a neuro. It can be a scary experience and oftentimes it's unnecessary because your PCP can tell if you are sick or not. I wish I listened to my PCP in 2008 when this started who told me "you have anxiety and it's causing you to twitch." I feel like if I did, half of my worsening symptoms/twitches wouldn't exist. Instead I had to go to 4 different neuros and get 5 EMGs. Still I doubted and I regret it so much. When I went to my doctor on the 14, she didn't even suggest a neuro but then when I told her it kept happening, she told me she would send a referral. She said it's only for peace of mind and maybe some suggestions on how to treat it. She firmly believes it isn't anything sinister. I am seeing her again today to tell her about how it feels like both tightening and twitching now to see what she thinks. Also, I used to get a weird tightness in my tongue all the time and it eventually went away too. I always wondered about a seizure disorder myself too since music will cause my tongue to twitch like crazy.
