Weird Swallow Feeling: Help Needed

I have been messing with this stuff for over 2 years. Just recently I started noticing that sometimes when I swallow it feels like my swallow is weak and I even do a weird swallow thing where I feel like I catch myself and stop myself from swallowing the wrong way. Has anyone experienced this? I'm not liking this

Hi Jeff,Surprisingly, even after clean bulbar clinical exam and after an EMG of the tongue, I still get various forms of weird bulbar sx.I still get pieces of food caught in the back of my throat. I have this frog of mucous that wont go down all the way. And now I seem to spit all the time when I talk and I have to wipe my lips like some kind of geriatric. With your time frame Jeff, you are well outside the realm of worry with regards to BFS. Hang in there bud. Thanks for your work as a firefighter. I know that is a stressfull job with long hours and sleep loss. Don't discount the effect that type of job will have on you mentally and physically. Take care bud!Greg

Back when I still thought I had ALS (this was over 10 years ago), I thought I was finding it more difficult to swallow correctly. Turns out it was merely the product of anxiety. Still wolfing down far too much food on a daily basis 10 years later :)

I do get this feeling off and on for over a year now but it does happen more often when I'm paying too much attention to swallowing. If I'm feeling this way, I like to read or watch something while I eat and that seems to help distract me and magically the problem goes away. I think playing with your tongue a lot can have some logistical effect on your swallowing (in terms of how you position food on your tongue/back of your throat when you make the swallow), because the tongue actually gets too strong
