Unexplained Muscle Symptoms: BFS?

I wrote a couple of months ago with questions concerning muscle fasciculations and greatly appreciated the responses. I've been suffering on and off for about ten years from BFS.

Recently, my symptoms have changed and they may or may not be related to BFS. My doctor is baffled at the moment, so I'm writing to inquire about whether my symptoms sound typical for BFS, or for something else.

In the last five weeks or so I've started to get a lot of mucle pain and strange feeling in my muscles and tendons. It started in my right shoulder and has spread to my left shoulder and back. The pain is still mostly concentrated in my right shoulder, but I also get pain in my joints elsewhere and in my arms. Somtimes it's dull, other times it's sharp. I have no muscle weakness, but my body is not liking exercise very much. Yesterday, I went mountain biking for several hours and when I returned, my right calf muscle had a strong burning sensation with pins and needles. I had never felt it before.

What is most bizarre is the clicking I am having in all my joints. It just suddenly started. I used to get normal joint clicking like everyone, but now everything clicks a lot. I also have some strange feeling in my bladder and have the feeling that I have to urinate more often than usual.

I looked up my symptoms on the web and they don't seem to point to anything in particular, except maybe Fibromyalgia. I am concerned about multiple sclerosis or als, but I haven't experienced any coordination problems or muscle weakness. Even my shoulders and back, which are clicking all the time and painful, seem strong.

Does this sound like anything in particular? I know I've got something because my symptoms are very real. My doctor is concerned but is not sure what specialist to send me to at this point. All blood tests were normal as well as xrays of my shoulders.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for what I might be suffering from.

Sincerely,

Erik

Your calf sensation after mountain biking is quite normal for me. BTW if you can ride your mountain bike you propably do not have any muscular disease.
Sometimes our body reacts in unussual way for over activity. Your pains and joints problems might be caused by flu or sometning like that (simple geeting cold).
I think there is no connection between your new problems and BFS.

Thank you for your reply, Marcin. My symptoms did start at the time of the heat wave here in Europe, so they could have been somehow caused by that. I was in the south of France and it was about 40 deg. C when I started to get the pain in my shoulder. Strange thing is that even though it's cooled off, I still have symptoms and they seem to get gradually worse. The clicking and pain, combined with the bladder discomfort are worrying. My doctor said to come back if my bladder problems persist, so I'll probably go back this week. My neck, back and other joints click all the time too. I thought it might be because of muscle weakness around the joints, but I can't find any information about that on the web and my doctor doesn't think it sounds serious.

Thank you again for replying.

Erik,

I have been suffering from a lot of the same symptoms you mentioned, clicking joints, lots of shoulder pain, and inability to exercise without pain. While these are all symptoms of BFS, i feel mine may be related to the antibiotic cipro. There is a web site you may want to check out if you have taken any of the quinolone antibiotics in the past several months. . While you probable have no connection with these drugs, there are a lot of people with similar symptoms.

Just a thought you may want to think about.

Good luck-Gary

I also have had many of the same symptoms you mention (other than the bladder problem). I have had numerous tests-all normal so far. Probably just part of the BFS.
