Twitching in lips/jaw and tongue

I have started getting a few in my lips/jaw area and in the last few days a few very soft twitches in the tongue, at least I think I am, when I press my tongue between my lips I seem to feel them more or maybe it's my lips twitching i don't know, i have twitched for a while but never before in my tongue but have felt what I think are minor twitches there in the last few daysI had allover body emg a few weeks ago and was given the all-clear, reflexes weren't even brisk anymore, plus I am no longer waking in the middle of the night, sleeping fine, still a few twitches here and there, no real cramps - but this tongue twitch is slighly concerning becausea) a lot of people seem to freak out about it and worry about it and regard it as more onimous for whatever reasonb) it is not a common twitch for twitchers to have, it is more unusual and I have never had it there beforei think it could be down to me fixating on my tongue, i felt it first when i was messing around pressing my tongue between my lips, i haven't felt any strong or easily noticeable twitches in my tongue and if i could just get confirmation that tongue twitches are no more concerning than twitches anywhere else I could hopefully let this latest worry goi swallow fine and don't slur my speech, more than likely this is nothing but why oh why oh why do so many fear the tongue twitch so much? (Maybe i don't want to know the answer to that one!!!)

Try to use the search function and you will find 1000s of posts regarding tongue-twitching.The reason why people get scared is, that one of the dx in bulbar-ALS is a fasciculating tongue. But then people tend to forget a few things:1) in a real fasciculating tongue (the malign ones) the unlucky owner does not feel the twitches.2) the twitches look completely different than ordinary twitches. The tongue has to rest in mouth while checked and a doctor or neuro is never in doubt if its the real thing. Actually if you have any fears in that direction, it is very easy and very fast to get the tongue checked. It takes max. 30 seconds.3) if you have a fasciculating tongue then you will be in no doubt that you are having problems like being unable to speak or eat. Again the problems comes first not after the sxs.4) tongue-twiching is very common. I myself once had one powerfull one that changed a few words in my mouth during a session at work. People where laughing. That was very embarrassing. But yet it was benign and I have no bulbar symptoms whatsoever. 5) remember ALS is one of the best diseases for people with health scare as weakness or funny muscle-movement and stuff can be found in your body all the time if you are looking for it. Its very easy to self-diagnose yourself with ALS actually but its luckyli also very few - if any - who made the right dx.... If you have been cleared by the doctors you dont have to worry about ALS WHATSOEVER!Get on with life and get these stupid thoughts out of your head ASAP!

I don't know. For me it was a relief when I got them at 3 months in or so. I knew that ALS doesn't start with early bulbar signs in relatively young people, but that they (tomngue twitches) are really common for BFS, so it was for me some kind of proof that all the rest is also benign.

hi there, im like christinasgirl123 i was happy when i got the tongue twitches..sure they freaked me out at first but then i realised that my twitching really was widespread and therefore was what my neuro and dr both told me repeatedly..BFS...dont worry about them..next week or next month u will probably get a new twitch.... :D)

I agree the main freakout factor is bulbar onset hypochondria ;)Also, have you ever seen how the brain devotes sensory detail to different body regions? Its pretty amusing. If you take the amount of somatosensory cortex devoted to body parts, you end up looking something like this:  Note the devotion of resources to the tongue. Think of all of the emphasis and detail you can fixate on in the tongue, if you are so inclined.
