Twitching in Calves & Feet

I started twitching (from what I can tell) about 6 weeks ago. I've read that BFS twitches tend to either be small pops in an area or tend not to stay in one spot for too long. I have "pops", or bigger twitches, that come and go throughout my body, as expected, but the real areas of concern for me are my lower calves and feet (both sides), where the twitching hasn't stopped the entire 6 weeks, isn't like the other "pops" at all (it's more creepy crawly, like worms slithering around under my skin), and is super frequent in both limbs (never stops, twitches all the time, many, many times a minute). Can anyone else speak to this at all? Like I said, these twitches are -completely- different than the other ones I experience (think "mini massaging chair" under the skin), and they -never- stop. Thanks in advance.

This is a very common twitching pattern in" average" in BFS. Many people have random pops and hotspots of single spots above their waist, but the calves and feet are more " hot limbs" than " hot spots . Meaning that many different spots all over their feet and calves twitch a lot so it can look like they have a live on their own. But people with a more severe ( meaning benign but with a more intense twitching) type of BFS, they often get this kind of twitch also on other places of their body. Like the tongue twitching on various places, the hands, lower arms, deltoids etc. Actually within the last 2 years I cannot remember one part of the body that was not a torture to one BFSer ,because it developed that " bag of worn" style twitch . Apparently everything imagineabe is possible with BFS when it comes to terms of twitches, jerks and fasciculations. So it makes sense to stick to the rule: if it comes without weakness, it is just BFS.

Hi, christinasgirl123.Thanks a lot for the reply. This forum is proving so helpful at putting my mind at ease. All other body parts are occasional twitchers, but both calves are non-stop. So in addition to being non-stop, it's perfectly normal for them to have that bag of worms look? I don't just mean a bag of worms feeling, by the way, as I've read about in other threads, I mean that it actually looks like that, too - like worms squirming really fast, non-stop all over my calves, or like someone typing really fast on my calves. Also, it's centered just below my calves, which seems strange... So the twitches don't normally stretch up to the big "bulge" of calf muscle, but tend to stay in the skinnier inbetween area. Not sure if that makes any difference at all.

You twitch exactly the same as me. I call them fine twitches, small, but annoying. I twitch pretty much exclusively in my calf muscles and feet multiple times a minute (30-60).

I'm 7 months into 24/7 calf twitching with the occasional ones occurring in the upper body. They have literally not stopped in that 7 month time frame unless i am moving . I reckon I get 20-40 per minute in the calves all day everyday . I've had all the typical tests (emg, MRI etc etc). Neuro says I have BFS plus nerve damage in my left leg and arm due to back problems.

From what I understand of it there is very little 'diagnostic value' in the details of the twitches, what is much more significant is if you have weakness etc. Both my neurologist and neurophysiology consultant's eyes glazed over when I started to talk at length about the kind of twitches that I have, it's just not what they look for.You would probably be wise to follow the same path as hundreds of people here... See your GP, possibly get a referral to a neurologist (if required) and possibly get an EMG (if required) and then find that very rare diseases are indeed very rare and you don't have it.GlowGreen

Is it normal bfs to have a persistent twitch in one area everyday. Left tricep and forearm twitches and jumps, especially at rest. Started out with just few twitches in arm, worse over the last six months. Have twitches elsewhere but worse on left side. No muscle weakness or fatigue. Normal EMG but can't stop worrying its the beginning of Parkinson's or some neuro disease. MS in my family. Father had it. Dtr diagnosed last year. I think the worry and constant focus on it is the worst. Anyone tried acupuncture or hypnotherapy ??Is it just me, but if I knew for sure it was just bfs and not the beginning of something worse, I could maybe stop focusing on impending doom and try to ignore it.
