Twitching 24/7 for 15 Months

I've been twitching 24/7 now for about 15 months. Started and continues with 24/7 calf and feet twitches....probably ~100 per minute. Also, twitch everywhere else with frequent hotspots in my arms and hands.Had EMG when this started and at 6 month and 12 month i had follow up with Nuero who did short clinical exam and said that other than fasciculation's I seemed fine.Well about five months ago my hands started hurting me all the time. Especially in my thumbs when I grip stuff. My hands also feel weak and wimpy to me. All the muscles in my hand also feel very stiff and hurt when i flex them. Also the back side of my wrists hurt. When I flex my hands back it hurts and feels like I'm lifting the weight of the world to do so. I went to my family doc who sent me to an orthopedic hand specialist. It took two months to see the specialist. During the wait my forearms now ache and are sore all the time. Finally saw the hand specialist and after xrays and exams he said he felt it was definitely nerve related. He is sending me for an MRI this week and an EMG in two weeks. Did not think it was arthritis or carpal tunnel, etc.....I'm a 36 year old healthy male and can't disconnect the twitching from the aching in my arms and pain and stiffness in my hands. It just really freaks me out, because of the twitching, when a doctor tells me he thinks I have a nerve issue and sends me for more tests....it really amps up my ALS fears....

Hi Adam, you do not have to disconnect them, because they have the same cause: BFS is not only twitching, but for many people also tremors and pain, stiffness and all kinds of weird sensations. If you use the forum search function about forearm /hand pain and stiffness you will have enough reading stuff to fill a long winters eve....Soooooo many here have been sent for another EMG/NCD for their hands because docs thought it would be a nerve thing (mostly ulnar here) and all came back clean. Except twitching of course.

Adam,About 6 months into my twitching, I had aching and weakness in my hand. My neuro confirmed the weakness and sent me for an emg of that hand because he suspected ulnar neuropathy. The emg was clean except for fascics that were detected in my thenar muscle. The strength in my hand has gotten better. I have no idea what it was but I nearly bleeped my pants! Haha. Don't worry. -Matt

In my case the pain in the legs, hand and forearm started to be noticeable at the same time as my twitches. Two months later I had an emg and it was still clean and unremarkable. Annoing and scary, but as others have said, not indicative in change in your circu, stances. if anything hand and forearm pain seem to be part of this bfs thing. You are following up with the pros, so you are doing the right thing medically. In the mean time, be assured that spooky pain is common. Perhaps not the majority case for bfs spectrum, but you can read plenty of similar stories here.

Adam,I can understand that a doc saying he thinks its a "nerve issue" can amp up your anxiety, but you need to understand that none of your symptoms represent ALS. Nerve issue or not, ALS ain't it.
