anyone ever have a twitch in tongue that was like someone tied a string to the top of your tongue from the bottom and was pulling on it...it lasted like 30 sec...saw in mirror...just one tiny area....prob stress...not scared...just f'ing weird.

Look for a thread started several months ago by Lovingmylittleboys, she described hers such as this in one of her posts and I talk with her nearly every day and she still has tongue twitching like this. She doesnt post much on here due to some of the content on the board increases her anxiety, but she does check for PMs, so you are welcome to PM her.Take careRobynn :D)

Well yeah but still its very few people with this tongue crap. Today I just wiggled my tongue during tooth brushin and after releasing it, my left side of tongue got clear fasciculation that I could see, it fired 6 times and stopped. It ruined my day..

I strongly disagree TD, there are several on here who have experienced tongue twitching. Myself included. Cant say that it ever looked like a string was pulling on it, but then again I rarely go to look at it in the mirror to see them, but I absolutely feel them. Tongue twitches for me seem to come after brushing teeth, coughing, sneezing and sometimes yawning, occasionally I can just be having a stressful day and get a few. I just havnt found a reason to get freaked out about them yet, mostly because tongue twitches get talked about in the anxiety community as well, and I am also pretty sure that I had some fleeting ones, way, way before I ever had or heard of BFS or ALS. They just happen. I even want to say that having issues with TMJ (which I have big time) could play a role in tongue twitching.Take care everyoneRobynn :D)

I've never had a visible twitch, but my tongue did vibrate for a solid 2 days. It was really annoying, but thankfully it did subside. It happened while my husband was traveling and I was alone with our baby for the first time ever so I was super stressed and tired!

Yep. Had them all when it comes to the tongue.Check my old posts.Lots of people here have tongue twitching and we're all fine.Regards,May

Robynn, do not get me wrong, I am not very good with english words like "several","few","lot" etc :) My point was that there is definitely more BFSers without tongue twitching. Regarding the anxiety zone and their talks about tongue twitches, that is unfortunately different as they talk about tongue twitching, means whole tongue or one of its muscles"jerks" which is not fasciculation.Out of curiosity, how your tongue fasciculations looked like if you said it was not like someone was pulling a string over it? I would describe it as clear, visible flickering of very tiny piece (2-3 milimeters) so I can easily imagine a string attached to top of this area to be pulled up and down. If yours look different, then its probably (which would be good) not true fasciculation. True tongue fasciculations does not extend more than few millimeters due to size of tongue muscle motor units. That is also the reason why people with ALS and abundant tongue twitching has that "bag of worms" appearance.

Doc, even if he does have true fasics (like most of us tongue twitchers - and trust me as I've had my share of investigation on that matter) this certainly doesn't mean he needs to be concerned and neither should you.

May, I quite do not get your comment - I guess all of us have true tongue fasciculations, I am just making it clear as some people tend to call tongue twitching (whole muscle or part of it) fasciculations. The thing is that we must not confuse twitching tongue with tongue fasciculations. Just for the purpose of have actual information, not because either of these should be concerning.

Ok :) Also would you describe yours as true fasciculations? So do I. Clear visible flickering or area like 3x3 millimeters on the lateral side (usually) when the tongue is resting. Fires like 4-6 times. It absolutely does not affect the tongue which remains stationary and its not well seen. This is true tongue fasciculation and it is what I have.

TS, I have not heard of one person (not saying there isnt any, as I'm sure there is) but everyone has described their tongue twitches as either the string pulling type or several flickers in a small area, not the whole tongue twitching in one whole movement, but like I said I'm sure its happened.I am just really tired of this being made into a big deal, like people should freak out if there tongue twitches, because it happens a lot on here. The whole bag of worms theory, hmmm, I have seen fasciculations in two ALS patients, and I honestly cant say that it made me think of a bag of worms, maybe more like several mini lightning strikes going on all over the togue, with some oscillating movement to it.I'm sorry, dont mean to sound hostile, just tired of this being made into a big dealTake careRobynn :D)
