Tracking Symptoms with Menstrual Cycle

Hello,Apart from an earlier posting this evening, it has been a while since I've posted on this website. I have been tracking my symptoms for months now (I am almost a year and a half into this thing). My most consistent observation in this wacky illness is that it waxes and wanes around my menstrual cycle. I've posted something similar to this a couple of months ago...During the months of January and February my symptoms were the mildest that they have been since they started....apart from the time around my cycle. It was very encouraging as I finally felt that I was on to something and that it was hormonal related. This month's cycle has been a crazy ride...I've been an emotional wreck, I was late for my cycle, and I had mid cycle bleeding....and guess what? My symptoms have been out of control compared to January and February. So...why am I sharing this info...because 1.) I want to know if anyone can relate and 2.) I want to know if anyone has consulted with an endocrinologist....my last blood results indicated that my parathyroid was on the low side but my calcium levels were high so my neurologist said not to worry about it BUT he is a neurologist not a hormone doctor....I read something on this site that thyroid and parathyroid issues could cause twitching.....Anyways, just wanted to know if anyone can relate to this...and by the way, I'm 29 years old so it shouldn't be menopause related.

When I first saw a neuromuscular specialist he told me about a patient that had twitching complaints similar to mine including on the tongue and it turned out she had a benign growth on her parathyroid and once it was dealt with her twitching stopped. He tested my parathyroid but it was not abnormal. I would be excited that this could be your problem since it's obviously not what anyone fears and can be treated.

For me, the twitching was definitely menopause related. But I think many things affect it. I know that I have been in a state of adrenal exhaustion for almost a year and coming back from that is a slow process. I twitch worse when the weather is yucky---when I am upset about something----when I haven't sleep-----when I've had very much caffiene. So, I have no problem seeing where the twitching can certainly be hormone related.Cindy

Hey Ladies..if you haven't already...check out power-surge.com. Its a site entirely devoted to menopause.....and the most trafficked part of the site is about twitching and interal shaking/buzzing.mB

I agree with you Cindy that mine also get worse when I get upset about something and lack of sleep...def. hormones....hope I'm not going through really early menopause though!!!!

I, too, have noticed a "pattern" to my twitching. I just started twitching in December 08. And it always seems to be worse in the first week or so of the month. I don't have a period...haven't had one in 15 years. I exercise a lot and take the pill. But when I went to see the neuro, he asked me if I was pregnant. I said no, why? He said pregnancy could bring on twitching. SO...after a few months of noticing a pattern with my twitching, and I'm not pregnant, I thought it COULD be hormonal, couldn't it? I'm almost 38 years old and have never had children. I am beginning to wonder if my hormones are changing every so slightly and perhaps it IS hormonally related.I guess I never worry about ALS anymore because if I had it, by now the symptoms would have progressed a lot. And way more than just twtiching. So, for people who've been twitching a few months or more, you can't have ALS. It progresses much too rapidly. And twitches aren't the first symptom, anyway. This week I go to another neuro. I want a second opinion and I want to bring up the hormonal issue. Mostly my twitches when I'm awake are in my fingers, hands, and eyelids. When I am resting or almost ready for sleep, then I seem to twitch more. But maybe it is because during that quiet time I'm just more aware of it.And now I'm going to that website someone mentioned...power surge something...:)
