Taking Tegretol: Refill Needed?

I've been taking Tegretol twice daily and a .5 mg Klonopin before bed. The neurologist did not refill my Tegretol. On my last appt. with him last year I had told him I wasn't sure how well it was working - so he told me to stop. I felt much more shaky when I stopped, so I just continued to use it (I had some fairly large refills left on my prescription). Now that I've stopped taking it for over a week, I'm having a terrible time trying to go to sleep at night. These are very small jolts which bring me back to an awake state as soon as I am drifting off. It goes on for a very long time and will still be there as I awaken in the morning. My most disturbing problems have always been at night (trembling when I'm asleep and waking exhausted). I hate to have to take more Klonopin. Does anyone have this problem, and what have you found helpful? I'll be talking to my doctor tomorrow about where to go from here.

What dose of tegrotol were you taking? My neuro started me off on 1200 mgs a day. It stopped the severe jerking I had at night- so bad I thought I had tetanus!!! The tegrotol made me sleepy during the day, but I was able to taper myself off of it gradually. I don't think it is as bad to come off as Klonipin.

Good luck to you

The Tegretol was 200 mg., so at the end I was having only 400 mg per day. I've used the Klonopin for 1 1/2 years, and was using the Tegretol for about the same amount of time. I'm going to see if I can just get along with my usual dosage of Klonopin. It seems that so many of us have similar symptoms, but then again, all quite different! My buzzing sensation is mainly on the left side of my body and not something that appears to be going away, at least anytime soon.
