Seeking Dermatologist for Rash/Twitches

Hello all,After seeing my doctor for the umpteenth time i have managed to get an appointment with a dermatologist about the rash that started along with the twitches in my calves. I am silently hoping that there might be some light at the end of the tunnel but am prepared for the inevitable "you're fine", which isn't a bad thing really. So for anyone interested will update this when i have been seen, i'm sure there were a few others that noticed red like rash on legs seemingly as a result of BFS.

Could be Erythema Migrans or Erythema Nodosum! E.M. is connected with Lyme Desease, E.N. is connected with wide range of autoimmune diseases. E.M. is large one, two, red coloured area; E.N. is several painful red/purple circles up to 2" in diameter below the knees.

Thanks for info!Have checked both out and the Lyme one is not typical of my rash but have always though about it as a cause. Doctor thought it was unlikely when i mentioned it to him. The other is interesting as like other members i was ill before this all flared up so maybe it is a reaction to something underlying.Petechiae rash is more like what i have at the moment.Hopefully i might find some answers from the dermatologist

This is interesting to me as I had developed a rash on my legs and arms around the same time my BFS started. Prior I had never had a rash in my life. The rash lasted a month or so.

Yeah mine has been here since this all started. The doctor informs me that they are not connected, but i can't help feeling they are! The rash appeared slowly after the bfs and is only present in the most affected and painful areas, my calves and feet!

I have also had some strange rashes over the years after having been dx'd with BFS. The first one appeared shortly around the time the twitching started. I had it biopsied and it came back as possible lupus along with many other possible conditions including polymorphous light eruption.2 yrs ago I had one on my neck that started out dime sized and spread to about 8 inches by 3 inches and was very itchy. The dermatologist thought it was lyme disease but tests came back negative. I also seem to have developed a sensitivity to the sun. I breakout in a very itchy rash after a few minutes of sun exposure. My primary doctor has referred me back to the dermatologist. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Could be reaction on vitamins suplements, B-complex specially. I never accept FDA recommendation based on daily taking. In my oppinion almost all suplements are overdosed. I was taking B-complex by Kal or Natural Wealth. I had rash lasted a couple of hours. I am pretty sure rash is connected with too much B20, relatively new ingredient (also known as Carnitine). Rash never appeared since I stopped taking that product. I am very positive about Carnitine because pharmacist confirmed several allergy cases.

Yes i would be interested to hear what your dermatologist says.I also have slight eczema, which makes my leg itchy but that is not the rash. I am seeing mine on Friday and will update if i hear anything informative.

Just a quick update.Unfortunately as i arrived at the hospital i discovered that i should have been sent a letter telling me that the consultant was ill....... Needless to say i didn't get the letter.......So another appointment has been arranged that i'm not sure i can do. Will let you know the results when it all happens

Hello all,Recently had my appointment with the dermatologist. After a very brief look at my rash and listen to my symptoms, he decided that i have petechia rash, which is a hemorrhage of blood vessels. I agree, as i thought this when it first appeared. Unfortunately he didn't seem to think that the pain and twitching in my legs were related to this.I still don't believe this to be the case. I am now thinking of going back to try and see a haemotologist instead.

Do you all still experience rashes? I get these read itchy patches usually on my trunk, although they have appeared everywhere, thighs, hands, neck. Thing is, they usually go away after a half hour or so, then reappear elsewhere. This usually happens at night, although it can happen anywhere; in the library, driving in the car, even last night while I was on a plane! It also happens whether or not I take gaba (I've been taking 900mg/day, but I don't think it really helps my twitches). Any ideas? Maybe I should see a derm, too.

Itching can be a big part of BFS for some (I've had alot) and it comes on pretty close to the way you described it as well. A good anti-itch lotion really can help alot, and staying cool and keeping your skin very moisturized.Take CareRobynn :D)

Hi,Wow, i haven't been on here for ages! I would probably try and see a dermatologist if i were you, especially if it is itching. I don't know, but it sounds like the rash might be related to something else? I have never gotten to the bottom of my twitches and the rashes, despite my best efforts. Thankfully i have managed to get over the twitches and they have died down and it's often fne. Unfortunately i have something else to worry about at the moment so it is taking my mind off them too. Hope you get some answers and relief

Thanks Robynn and loyalroyal! Its been driving me insane since the summer. I started taking pictures of them just to prove that I have them, because they often disappear then appear elsewhere, and of course when I go to the doc, I look fine! "watched pot never boils" and all that. What cream works? I try hydrocortisone but its prolly just a placebo.

Gold Bond itch relief lotion is a good one, and if that doesnt work they make an Aloe Vera gel that contains Lita-cane which will take the itch away and sooth the burning sensation that the scratching brings on.Good luck and let me know if these bring you some relief :) Take careRobynn :D)

I have found that going to the doctors repeatedly with some things (although it didn't work with the twitches!) can help because they soon realise that it really is bothering you and that it might be something more. Good luck with getting it sorted out.

If the rash pops up and then goes away then it would have to be something in your system - any pattern with the foods you are eating? You may have developed a sensitivity to certain foods. I found that when my pnhe symptoms were the worse I also got more skin irritations and was sensitive to foods that I hadn't had trouble with before (high histamine foods/drinks for example would increase my symptoms). Like my whole body had gone on high alert for a while. I don't have this problem now since things have calmed down.

I agree with AllGoodHere about the potential sensitivity to some foods you are eating. A rash is usually a symptom of some sort of allergic reaction. There are different types of antibodies that the immune system develops in order to combat what it deems to be a threat. For various reasons, sometimes our immune systems begin to interpret some of the foods we eat to be a threat. My twitching wound up not being the result of just one food allergy/sensitivity. It was actually the result of multiple allergies/sensitivities. This makes it much more difficult to pin point just what the culprit foods are because there are multiple variables to the equation. The most common culprits are wheat/gluten, dairy, soy, corn and eggs, but the human body can develop an allergy to just about anything including itself in some cases. You can try experimenting with your diet and remove foods that you think might be triggers. Usually we develop allergies or sensitivities to foods that we eat most frequently. If you eat a banana a day, try doing without the banana for a few days. Most people have wheat/gluten and dairy every day, so try substituting gluten free products and dairy free products for a few days. It may be worth a shot. Keep us posted.
