Seeking Advice on 200 mg Dose of Medication

thanks PrayMantus, It may not work on me either, but at least it is good to know that there are no side effects! :D) Did you find anything helped your twitches if you did take anything?Have a great twitch free weekend :D) Mary

Bfshopeful,Were you taking Gabapentin to stop the twitching or to try to overcome the exercise intollerance? Also, to Dread,Your post is the first time I've seen the drug "diltiazem" on this site. How did you select that particular med?

I am also interested to know if the gabapentin is helpful for the twitching. I have been twitching for eleven months and have not tried anything except .5 of ativan now and then when I get anxious about the twitching. Dulls the twitching a bit, or I just don't care as much! I think the gabapentin would be safest to try out of the anti-seizure drug category so I would ask my doctor for it if others on this forum thinks it has helped reduce the twitching.Glad I found this site!Julie

Sensory symptoms for me -- visible fasics and twitching in the calves, legs are either asleep or pins and needles, etc. Sorry I was away for so long.

Duke11,Are you saying Gabapentin helped with sensory symptoms and the visible twitching? If so, I am definitely going to try it. I use Klonopin right now but would like to see if something else could work even better. If you did get improvement, what was the dose and how long did you have to take it before you saw benefits. For me the benefits with Klonopin were within hours. If it just helped with the sensory symptoms, can you describe what those symptoms were. I sometimes can't tell whether my symptoms are sensory or motor or both. I feel tingly, buzzy sensations with the twitching I can see in my calves. If I could take the sensations away completely that would be so great as it would allow me to relax better and not think about how I wish it would all just go away.Krackersones

The tingly, buzzy, pins & needles sensations went away for me with Gabapentin. The visible twitching is greatly reduced but not gone. It took about a week for the sensations to go away at a dose of around 1,000 mg day. I'm at a relatively high dose now of 2,400 mg a day, but that's because I'm trying to overcome the exercise intollerance rather than the sensory symptoms.

Jro, Let us know if the gabapentin works for you also and what dose. Would love to find something that at least reduces the twitching so I can get if off my mind! Thanks,Julie

Julie,I will post as soon as I get my hands on the stuff and try it. I will try to make an appointment tomorrow and hopefully will be able to get in to see a doc soon. Maybe I can even get it prescribed over the phone.Krackersones

Nice to finally see a picture of you Krackersones. About Gabapentin... I did try it and it really made no difference with the twitches however, I was on a low dose 600mg. As Duke said, he takes 2400mg so you may need a higher dose to see results. Let me know what dose you are going to be on and if it works for you.

I will absolutlely let everyone know what happens when I try Gabapentin. To me this is one of the best aspects of this forum. If we can't cure this stuff then at least some of us can try to get some relief from the symptoms although some of the lucky ones say they barely notice them. I am not one of those unless you are talking about when I am moving around.

I am taking lyrica (pregabalin) that is a more potent version of gabapetin. With a combination of 300 mg of cabamazepine 2 times day and 75 mg of lyrica my fasciculations are almost gone. My fingers are quiet now and the dull ache and fatigue sensation I get on my right arm is so much better. I am not 100% pain and twitch free but I can say I am 90% better.I am taking meds because it is very hard to ignore my symtoms. The pain, fatigue, exercise intolerance, finger twitches and widespread twitches can get anyone crazy. I started this 2 weeks ago and I hope this combo will continue to have the same effect that it is having. No side effects until now.

Lyrica is not that addictive. Klonopin is much more addictive than Lyrica (I read that on net). The dose I am taking is very low. I will go to my doctor next week and see if he will change something.

Gaba worked for me in as much as it helped with sleep - at the time I was jerking around in my sleep and waking up myself and my husband. It also seemed to calm the spasms. I was taking it only for this since it made me a little spacey - took a low dose ~ dinner and another at bedtime (over-lapping in mid-sleep and tapering off toward morning) and allowed me to rest and therefore get it together. At the time i was approaching BCFS basket-case level 10 so it did help a lot - just getting some rest made a huge difference. I stopped after a few months as it was making me forgetful (standing in line at the store unable to remember my pin number  ). The symptoms didn't reappear and my memory came back. BUT as my neuro said 'there is no correct drug or correct dosage; it is a balancing act which varies for each person and must constantly be adjusted'.Lyrica made me walk into walls - literally. I don't recall all the types I tried but most anti-spasmotics had the same effect on me.Now I take nothing. Once in a while an ibuprofen if muscle tension causes a pulled muscle, but this is much rarer than it used to be. All you out there - it gets better. Really.
