Agreed. Journalists are not experts, though they should be expected to distill the expertise of others for their readers/viewers.
If I were to write a piece about someone who had *** that presented with twitching it would no doubt be very different to a piece written by someone with no experience of BFS.
It would no doubt be more accurate but - for the general reader - it would probably be more boring.
