Questions about Pregnancy Trauma Syndrome

sorry im asking so many questions but i just want to learn and understand this syndrome. as title says what triggered yours? im assuming mine was triggered by the birth of my child or the womb infection i got after as it all started a week after i gave birth 7 months ago.the birth wasnt particularly traumatic.it was super quick and over in an hour.

Wasn't one 'event' as such in my case kitkat. I think it was years and years of chronic anxiety/stress, and the resultant constantly hyped nervous sytem. That suddenly went haywire ie BFS. It started just as tingling in calves ( no particular event at the time that I can see that would have started it -13 months ago) then progressed to twitches- first in calves, then progressing elsewhere, then the sensory stuff came along. I think it is different for everyone, but the one thing that seem to be in common is the we all have a pre-disposition to it, whether that be genetic or other wise who knows. And many many on this board have very anxious/ hyper' personalities. Another commonality. In your case the birth may have been the cause, or maybe co-incidentally, something else upset your nervous system, and it just bucked up at the same time.Oh yeh-different topic but another post related....did you see the Dr today?- on anxiety meds or not???cheersRodger :)

well im quite an anxious person.always worrying about things well before they happen and my pregnancy was a real worry as had alot of problems and then one i had baby i ws even more worried cause of the pain i was in. i havent had chance to go docs this morning and wont get chance now till friday so will let you know then.

Maybe the anxiety and worry of the birth was the thing that 'sent you overthe edge' kit kat?? Anxiety, if not the cause, certainly fuels symptoms-big time.If you get onto anti anxiety medication, just ask about side affects before you decide on which one ( should it come to that point) Lexapro has a few but nothing major and I have been told, easy to come off. Some others may have more-best to check.cheersRodger

Funny you say that CDC , I am into rigerous exercise (not so much of late) squash- which is quite intense. I have however put the question up before about the potential relationship between rigerous exercise and BFS onset. No real trend as some BFSers are quite 'sedentary'. I think some of us are just pre-disposed, for whatever reason. cheersRodger

Well, I believe in the virus theory- maybe combined with anxiety? I had a persistent virus infection and my twitching started right after. It´s just a theory though.....

Praying that this is just bfs, but I have had LOTS of anxiety lately. Also had a stomach bug right before that made my hands and feet tingly for a few days. This started shortly after.

For me, it might have been hormones that started my bfs. Since menstruation. I probably been twitching since I was 12 or so but never paid attention to it cause I didn't think it was an issue until I recently started googling it and that's when it started to worry me. But I have been twitching randomly for at least 20 or more years. And for me hormonal changes aggravates it (during that time of the month).

For me, bfs started about a week or so after receiving flumist (live virus flu vaccine) --local then bodywide twitching within a week (Aug 09). Certainly anxiety, exacerbated by Dr Google, did not help matters. It is interesting that I had shingles about a 6 months or so before all this started --??Immune system not quite up to par with shingles presenting in my 40's and then this reaction (BFS) following flumist. I'm like many of the posters here looking for associations to then link to identify a cause.. I'm afraid we may never know exactly what triggered this --What does seem consistent for many is an autoimmunity connection (virus/immune respsonse connection) Cheers, rlm

A very bad flu (doc said it was prob a version of H1N1) that put me in bed with high fever for 3 days. I'm not the type to stay in bed but I literally couldn't get up. It may have been perpetuated by stress, habitual responses & bad coping mechanisms, etc. Since I am now much better than 4 years ago but not completely cured, it makes sense as nerves take a long time to heal and for sure changing your behavior to learn new coping methods is even more tiresome.

I believe a virus triggered mine as well. I had been on prednisone and think that my immune system was low. It started out like the flu with all over body aches with the occasional twitch then I exploded into a twitching frenzy.
