Questions about EMG Results

I feel like a pain with my questions but this is the only forum that i am aware of that feel comfortable asking my questions. I had an EMG and was told it was "negative" with the exception of the fasciculations in my legs. When the needle was stuck in my legs we heard the fascics. My Nuero told me that he expected to hear something as he could see the fasciculations. Then i read a post where it was mentioned that if you have BFS the EMG would not produce a sound even if your muscles are fasciculating. I would like some frank answers so that I know what I am faced with. Any answers, good, bad anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Everything is fine guys. Nothing to worry. Me too had a/ sound and b/ fasciculations during my first EMG in 2004. I was terrified but Neuro calmed me down. Unfortunately I didn't trust my first doctor looking for new one and again in vicious circle of my neurosis. All together is behind me now. I am sure I do not have ....you know what! WE ARE ALL O.K.

I had a EMG last week. I still haven't seen the report but was told by neuro doing to the test that it showed "nothing" and based on it I did not have **S. I asked the neuro before the test if it showed fasciculations would that mean I had the bad disease. He said no. It's not the fasciculations it is the "company they keep." I actually heard him whisper the word "benign fasciculations" during the test to the doctor he was training, so I think he might have detected some but didn't make that clear to me. I guess I'll find out when I see the report. If they are on the report it will not change anything. I already know I have fasciculations. I feel them all the time!Krackersones

Robd -Your neuro's opinion is always better than mine. If he/she say's your good...your good. With that in mind, I have been twitching for nine years now. I went through the whole **S scare when I first began to twitch. I had a number of EMG's during that first year. A few of the initial EMG's were clean, but most of the other ones after that were not. Around my third EMG I went into the appointment twitching like crazy. My neuro warned me that I would hear static on insertion of the needle. He poked it right into the twitching muscle and the static went crazy. He also stuck a needle into my foot (which was also twitching at the time) and of course I heard more static. I began to panic big time!!! After he finished the exam he said, "I don't know why you are twitching, but I do know that it is not ALS". Of course I questioned him for another hour, but he was steadfast in his diagnosis. He said, "if you want a name, I will say that it is BFS". I can absolutely assure you that I had a number of EMG's where fasciculations were noted and I am just fine almost nine years later. In fact, on the EMG report it was noted as "profuse fasciculations". Neuro's know what they are looking for. I wish I had listened to the first one. I would have saved myself a lot of time, money and anxiety. Best of luck to you...
