Question: Jerks/Twitches at Rest?

Besides fasiculations, I have been having larger jerks that slightly move the limb (arms and legs). This is only at rest. I find it very hard to sit still. Do any of you have this symptom, this is quite bothersome.

Yes, I had quite a few jerks in the beginning of my bfs journey. I was even afraid to go into the MRI machine for fear that I would be jerking all over in the machine. Luckily that did not happen but it did happen when I would try to sleep, relax in a chair or any other time at rest. I had them in my back as well. You are bfs normal. :D) Mary

A lot of us have had those jerks. I had these quite frequently in my earlier days with this, but they have stopped finally, roughly 5 months ago. Sorry you are having these, but they really should subside. A lot of this stuff just tappers off after a while. But the twitches like to hang out.Take CareRobynn :D)

Oh yes!!!! This has happened to me alot. Sometimes my arm or leg will jerk. It used to scare me especially in the beginning but not anymore. All part of BFS.

Yes I have this as well, and I too find it very hard to sit still. I feel as if I have to tap my foot constantly. I hate this. I hate the whole thing. My twitches have spread and are constant and strong.

Yes I was next to a rather large jerk in line at the grocery the other day.I'm only half joking because I've found that if you treat the body jerks the same as the other kind it helps: take a breath and relax, try to let the relaxation and breathing take away the muscle tension, and then ignore it if it does happen (you can't let it upset you). If you feel them coming and breathe them out so to speak - just the opposite of tensing up more in anticipation of it happening they can be avoided. You can use your body awareness to save you trouble rather than alert you to points of distress; it's like moving out of the way of an on-coming vehicle - instead of the deer in the headlights you just adjust/relax/get out of the way/let it go by. Ahhh the tricks you learn dealing with this stuff - it's endless - but like any trick it also takes some practice.

I've had BFS for 1 year and yes I experienced very large, hard, and frequent jerks during the 1st 8 months in my gluts, lats, deltoids, and pectoral muscles. Strong enough to move the entire joint. I still experience them; although at a reduced frequency. The fasciculations, twitching, buzzing, and vibrations are pretty much non-stop somewhere in my body--- even during sleep. I also experience rippling "myokemia" with tremor in my muscles during partial contraction. I've had two EMG's and both were clean. It's annoying (to say the least) but I've learned, and continue to learn how to live with it.

During my second year of this craziness, I experienced really awful jerks, usually in the morning after waking up, or prior to falling asleep. It was out of the question for me to ever ponder a day time nap as a leg or arm would jerk so violently. Sometimes it would be my whole body, and on occasion, even my facial muscles or neck. After about a year, this slowly faded away. I still on occasion get a limb jerk, just not as frequently. This was one symptom that responded very well to Klonopin. I would often have to take one in order to fall asleep.

If your talking about large jerks its called myoclonus.. if these jerks happen as soon as you fall asleep its called nocturnal myoclonus. it usually happens in the first year of the onset of bfs. its medically caused by the subconscious,, when people experience long stretches of sever anxiety.. it happened to me in the first year.. i had nocturnal myoclonus very bad.. so bad my wife had to hold me tight while i was curled in a ball to try to fall asleep. klonopin is prescribed for this and will abolish large myoclonic jerks.

Guess I spoke too soon…This morning I experienced numerous myoclonic jerks, which I haven't had in many months. Not sure if there is a connection, but I started coming down with what feels like the flu two days ago. I even had a big facial jerk around my nose.
