Post-Viral Symptoms & BFS

Do people with BFS also typically have digestive and bowel issues?I have been struggling with some bizarre GI issues and I noticed a few posts here. I have had stool samples and nothing came up. I am about to do a breath test and get scoped in both ends. My CT was clean.I really think I have a Post Viral Syndrom of some sort. I have read about Myalgic Enchepelemyletis(ME) or CFS and it seems to have similar etiologies and symptoms. Has this been discussed?

I've had Post Viral Syndrome thrown at me by a couple of professionals, and on some levels it makes sense. But..unless you have been hanging out with some pretty intense fatigue (which I've had for over a year now), then Post Viral Syndrome is probably not what you are dealing with. Since this started I have had some digestive issues. For the most part they have resembled Gerd, and IBS.If you would like to compare notes, you are more than welcome to PM me anytime.Take careRobynn :D)

I'll throw in Celiac disease. Ive had to use Omeprazole on and off for 2 years because of my gut being hyperexcitable in the production of acid.

I have IBS, and have had for a considerable number of years ( before my BFS). I believe ,as I do with my BFS, that it is all chronic anxiety related. If my anxiety goes up my BFS and IBS symptoms follow. The answer- deal with the anxiety- deal with the IBS & BFS issues. simple eh.....no not simple!cheersRodger

IBS definitely was a part of this for me. It all began with an awful stomach virus. Twitches, etc. followed. I've been gluten free for 1.5 years, but that was an experiment I did myself, and it worked so I stuck with it. Have been scoped, etc. and all came back normal. Just more aches and pains!

I have had ibs for more years than i can remember but have recently been having acid Indigestion(sorry dont know if its classed the same in other countries.sometimes to the point of being almost sick.

My 2 cents.i have chronic IBS AND chronic gerd. I have stopped my 40mg of phrlosic(sp) after 10+ years because it has stopped working. i try carafate. tagamet, bucket of tums, alka seltzer, aloe vera and other things. pretty much sucks. :( If i eat rice and water I seem to do ok. So basically I suffer a lot. :) I have spent tons of money on this stuff with no real answers. recent tests revealed candida and some intestinal parasite but my doc is still working on it.Align is the best probiotic on the market for IBS. Give it a tryMy opinion is that BFS/CFS/fibro/ME/PVS/ are all closly relate and share similar symptoms. anything that screws with your nervous system screws with your WHOLE body. Find small things that help and go with it. Even feeling a little better is good right? :) The better you eat and take care of yourself the better you will feel no matter WHAT have.DD

I have also had C FS thrown at me. I have been scoped at both ends and I was told I had "marked Gastritis". Not sure how that helps but the fatigue and pain are killing me .....

In many of my previous posts I talked about how digestive health was tied to the immune system and thus the whole body. I developed IBS in college and over the years developed more and more whole body symptoms that I just associated with getting older (ie joint pain, brain fog, getting up at night to go to the bathroom like in the prostate radio commercials). It all came to a head when I started twitching, getting cramps, spasms, tremors, and panic attacks. The other symptoms continued to worsen too especially the IBS.I later discovered that even though I didn't have celiac disease, I did have food intolerance problems with a few foods including gluten. This hit me out of nowhere because I had always been fine with these foods, but now I was able to reduce the twitching by avoiding as many of the problem foods as I could. These food intolerance issues were not the root cause, they were just another symptom that was causing other symptoms. I'll try explaining it a different way than I normally do. It all boils down to stress on the body. Our bodies are naturally in a constant state of change and they are constantly adapting to the different stresses that they are subjected to. Our bodies need to achieve a state of balance in order to maintain our health and natural system function. The stresses we experience can be physical, emotional, conscious and/or unconscious. This is why when we get our conscious emotional stress and anxiety in check it reduces our symptoms but does not eliminate them. This is just one small part of the equation and only the 'tip of the iceberg'. The more stress our bodies accumulate over time, the less ability they have to adapt and achieve balance. Accumulated stress can lead to system dysfunctions and health problems. These dysfunctions can result in the immune system getting confused and reacting negatively to things that aren't a threat (new allergies and intolerances). It can also lead to auto-immune and neurological dysfunction. This is what caused my BFS. I know because I went to a homeopathic doctor who used techniques that help the body clear these accumulated stresses and achieve balance again. Even though I originally went to the doctor to clear up my twitching, I'm finding that my joint pain is gone, the brain fog is gone, my food intolerances and allergies are gone, my IBS is gone, and believe it or not, my hair which had begun falling out when i was 20 is thickening up again. It is amazing the energy levels and overall health improvement that I feel. I sleep better at night and don't have to get up to use the facilities like I used to. Its like I have a new lease on life. My digestive health was definitely tied to all of this, so you guys are on to something.

inzTwoToneTunes,I started out with an anti-candida plan to get rid of the excessive candida in my digestive system and repopulate it with probiotics. Taking probiotics without first getting rid of the candida does little good because the candida will choke off and starve the probiotics before they ever have a chance to establish themselves. While I was on this diet, I avoided trigger foods for me which included guten, dairy, soy, caffeine, and a few others. Once my digestive system was healed and my probiotics were back to normal, I started doing treatments with my homeopathic doc to eliminate my allergies and correct system dysfunctions that were causing me problems. I started out using NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique) and later switched to JMT (Jaffe-Mellor Technique). Many people are skeptical of these techniques, as I was at first too, but I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. Thanks to these techniques I no longer have ANY allergies, including the hayfever that has plagued me since grade school. I'm back to eating gluten and dairy products among the others I avoided. A few people on here wrote my success off as the 'placebo' affect, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone overcoming their allergies thanks to a sugar pill. I've noticed other benefits as well, as even my hair has started growing in thicker (started slowly losing over 10 years ago).

Thanks for the info. I am definately all over this. I have recently had horrible Gerd and IBS issues that I cannot resolve. I went back to the natureapath(sp) who saaid I tested positive for candida and a intestinal infection. Still waiting for him to figure out a plan of action.
