Neuro Visit Left Me Reassured: New Bizarre Twitching

I've been twitching for about 7 months. A neuro visit made me feel better that it was just BFS and nothing more. I have occasional twitches that have definitely improved when my anxiety level is low. This week, however, I started getting a bizarre and new feeling on the sole of my left foot. I want to say its a tingling/buzzing feeling, and I've also noticed it in my left hand as well. I am seeing a new neuro this week as a follow up, so I'm glad for the timing, but now I'm convinced I have MS. I had an MRI for something else, and nothing was said, but I wasn't sure if MRI's can pick up MS.Can anyone share any experience/advice for me?Thank you.

Not sure what part of your body received the MRI, but the answer can be yes. Brain MRI's often show white lesions that are caused by MS. It sounds like you have some encouraging news and it is highly unlikely that you have MS. There are a lot of symptoms for MS and clearly they can overlap with a lot of other things....including BFS. I would be sure to discuss any concerns with the neurologist and make a list if needed. The last thing youn want it to walk out of the room and think of a few questions that you forgot to ask because this causes additional anxieties that are unnecessary. And yes, the symptoms you describe are common complaints in benign syndromes...All the best,

The MRI I had was on my brain. So I'm hoping that because it was clean is good news. My appt is Thurs, and will definitely be asking tons of questions. Thanks for your post!

It is good your MRI of the brain was clean. This is the most common place to show lesions in MS...some people develop them on their spinal cord as well but I would not think twice about that because it doesn't sound like MS at all to me. Fasciculations really aren't that common in MS.I hope your appt goes well and keep us posted.Later,

Hi there, as a 9 month twitcher, I can tell you many of us here buzz and vibrate. I get the same thing in my left foot as you describe.Linda

I have a tingling on the top of my left foot. This comes and goes. When it is present, it usually lasts about a week (unlike my other twitches which seemingly last forever) and then goes away. I have also had this buzzing on other areas of my body; but, it affects my left foot more than anywhere else. I have had an EMG, after about seven months of twitching, and it was clear. It's probably just another symptom of BFS.

I've had twitching, tingling, buzzing, (definitely a lot in my feet), and other symptoms for over 30 years. I used to think that I had MS as well, since I had many relapses. I was told that "signs" of MS would show up in a clinical exam, (mine started years before MRI's were available.) It's my understanding that currently the brain MRI is the "gold standard" for identifying MS lesions. I've had a few MRI's over the years, (for dizziness, etc.). They were always negative and I was told that they ruled out MS. Mine were all brain MRI's---I've asked a couple of doctors about a spinal MRI and they said no need for that. Hope this helps. Denise
