My story is similar to a lot of people here and I'm very grateful that all of you have taken the time to talk about the symptoms. I've always been against trying to explain any health problems I have with friends and family because I don't think they'd really understand. Anyway, I noticed that I had a strange electrical/tingling sensation in my right foot back in October. It happened the night after I had been playing football. That's probably not important, although my own sake I have been trying to identify anything which might have caused it. I suffer from tinnitus, which has thrown me off my sleep for the best couple of years. As a result, it's been hard for me to get anywhere near enough sleep for quite a long time now. From there the tingling spread and the twitching began. All over the body as seems to be the way for most people. I've been to my doctor who is organising an EMG. In his words, he was 95% sure it is BFS even before the EMG, based on looking at me and performing some reflex tests. This was reassuring. Of course it's great that I almost certainly don't have anything that is life-threatening. At the same time it has slowly taken over my thoughts. I tend to dwell on things which is probably making it worse than it needs to be. I am worried about getting enough sleep, based on how much I twitch now and how much more I might twitch in the future. I get particularly irrational when I'm tired which leads me to get very low thinking about the BFS. I also have been suffering from full body jerks when nearing sleep. They are lot stronger than they were before and seemingly a lot more frequent than they were before I suffered from the twitching.Does anyone know any medication I can take to reduce anxiety? I'm planning on speaking to my doctor about this point because I obviously don't want to get addicted to anything. I've taken a few sleeping agents with the active agent diphenhydramine. This appears under the BFS article on Wikipedia as a possible cause, when taken too much.Trying to keep positive. It's not easy sometimes. This is technically the first day I just haven't had enough energy to go to work because of the lack of sleep.

Dear MattIm sure that your sxs are benign in nature. You had a clean EMG. You dont have any clinical weakness. Please dont let yourself carry away. Once a twitch is benign its benign. It doesnt matter how many, how often or where they are. Please believe me when I say to you that the sooner you accept the benign stuff the bigger is the chance for you to return to normal life. You struggle mentally without reason. STOP! Not just for your own sake but for the sake of your children and your wife and family. Dont be one of those who loose everything like wife, job or reason. Weightloss is common during periods of stress. So thats plausible or should I say: expected.Relax and believe you are healthy. BFS is common. ALS is rare. You look common to me... ;)

my right tricep muscle where it attaches to the elbow twitches every day. When I went to my celiac doctor at Columbia University I took off my jacket to show her and she jumped on her email so fast and fired off an email to a neuro doc she knew on staff and he told her it was benign.... it may be benign but it sure is ANNOYING as hell..!

Hi,for me it is all started in May 2011 and getting up and down but the thing is that I do have more twitches, they are happening all over the place, sometimes every few seconds, sometimes every minute or two, could be in my scalp, stomach, hands or legs, it is very annoying and I'm afraid what will happen next. According to what I read I'll not die because of this but it is not fun; I've started to exercise a bit more - it did not help, Magnesium - no improvements, no caffeine - no difference, no alcohol - same thing. EMG - negative. It looks like I'm in your everyday club - anything else I can try to get rid of it or get better?Any statistics on how BFS affects length of life?Thank you,Dennis

Count me in also. Constant rotation around knees, calves, thighs, glutes, shoulders, elbow, forearms (sometimes close to wrists, left eye lid, lower lip). No rhyme or reason. Anytime...all the time. Rotates in no particular order. Very rarely there is a moment or two when nothing is twitching but that doesn't last long.

i twitch everyday! I would say i twitch a few hundred times a day, i had moments where i would twitch thousands a day... but i actually don't even realize i twitch anymore haha, newbies may be thinking ''i will always be anxious'' but with time your mind ignores them (usually)... the only ones that really get my attention still are my tongue twitches or my lip twitches, last night i was laying in bed thinking ''hmm i wonder if i still twitch like i used to'' and so i lay still and counted how many times i twitched, they just kept rolling on lol, i still twitch like i used to but i ignore them! its so weird, i remember like 11 months ago my twitching was on my mind CONSTANTLY, i could not live a normal teenage life :( but now i probably think about my twitches (in an anxious way) about 1 minute a day lol You grow to love the twitching with time

Well it has been a four long months and it is time to renew your membership to Club FRED (Fasciculating Randomly Every Day). (btw, for you newbies, this is a very reassuring post)As a reminder here are the rules....********** CLUB FRED (Fasciculating Randomly Every Day)**********RULE #1 Must be having more than one fasciculation every single day randomly since you can remember a set beginning. Can be single pop or multifire. Frequency is user dependent.RULE #2 Must have been seen and dx by a neurologist as benign. EMG proof is encouraged but not required.RULE #3 Honesty is a must.--We may have lost a few members who have stopped twitching or are smart enough to know not to stay here forever (or ended up in the nuthouse) so lets check the latest membership list...ghayes420BobajojoJerryjujuliaLeanneJbainesimonnabuzzmike- thanks for coming back after two years to report!Kovitichshannysparksense- thanks for reporting back. im still a member....1st year anniversary next week..still twitching everywhere everyday..even got some new hotspots recently...lucky me... ..bfs and i are now officially in a long term relationship i think....shanny

I have twitched every single day for the last 6 months. I have some days that are better than others where I may get a break for an hour or two but it is always short lived. I had a clean emg 1 month ago but no decrease in twitching only increase in cramping. This club is no fun!

Congrats on entry into Club FRED Tessa. But I completely disagree that this club is no fun. Would you rather be in the ALS club for everyday twitchers? I mean I haven't arranged a cruise ship or any fun events yet if that is what you are referring to but this is a fun club that should bring you and many others reassurance and positive reinforcement, which is way better than reading freaked out posts everytime you click on a new thread. PS- feel good you get a break for an hour or two. Myself and a couple friends would like a break for 2 minutes. :)

You are absolutely right of course...I will take bfs over the big nasty any day but I do long for the days before any of this started. I am thankful I do get a little break from time to time too. Wish all of you did too. You just let me know when you book that cruise ship and fun events for us :D)

I'm still part of club FRED! 9 months now. Some days there's hardly any twitching (but there is always some). Those days are rare though.Mitra
