hi everyone,as some of you may know at my neuro app a few weeks ago i had a clean neuro exam and he said i didnt need an emg.he ordered a mri of cervical spine because i had 2 episodes of electric shock sensation down my left arm i had the scan 2 weeks ago.he has just phoned to say it was basically normal, except from mild scoliosis and mild dessication of discs due to wear and tear.i asked him about my left leg pain and percieved weakness i have at times,he said my clinical was normal and nothing to indicate anything serious, and thinks its most definite benign...however when the call came to an end i asked him ''so you dont need to see me again?'' and he said yes in 3 or 4 months to follow up! is this normal proceedure?? i keep thinking now hes not to sure himself :( here i am getting all worked up again..

I think he's just been thorough. He may want to monitor your scoliosis. I'd not worry at all. Neurologists deal with many benign conditions such as back problems. It's easy to get worked up but I'd take it for what it is. Just a follow up. I bet he's not even thinking what you are thinking! He's just doing his job and looking after you. Try and see it for what it is and forget about it. You've had good news! It's Christmas next week - enjoy the holiday. X

I freaked out about this as well when I was told I have to come back for another emg Apparently it's normal procedure for some I asked why I have to come back on 6 months an he said "to be creaky and to make sure it's not another muscular diease" This got me really worried as well and has me worried But keep in mind my cpk was 300+

Neuros, like almost all doctors are going to want follow-ups, just to be sure everything is okay, because it's standard protocol. Think about it from their perspective; they are worried about liability they might have to deal with in the very tiny minute chance that they are wrong. While he's probably almost positive you're okay, he doesn't want to take the .01 chance that he's wrong because he could get sued. So, he wants to follow up with you to be 100% sure.I never went to my follow up because my anxiety was so bad, and 2.5 years later I'm still standing. Try not to read into it. I think very few people on this board went to their first visit, had their tests with everything being fine, and then their neuros simply dismissed them. Your tests were good, and you're going to be fine. It's so likely the scoliosis and the compression are causing your issues.

I had one year followup (skipped last visit) but I found instead this as a very reassuring practie. Well, I am used to see a gyno regularly. Do I think my gyno is not sure about my internals? Nope, but things may change with the times. So regarding the neuro I thought well, right now I am OK. BUt who knows, in few month... and if something had happened..etc. etc. IT WOULD BE GOOD TO HAVE AN AGREEMENT TO SEE A DOCTOR!that was my way of thoughts. probably if you can think in that way, it would be less worrisome to you.but generally followup is a NROMAL and REGULAR practice and due to followup the doctors for example may state that beople with BFS does not develop anything bad within 6 month or year, unlike the people with MND for example.it never meand the doctor is not sure.

I have had a few suspicious moles removed. Each one has been BENIGN. After each one the dermatologist asks me to come back in 4 or 6 months just to be certain nothing else has developed in that spot and everything has healed well. Think of it this way. There is about zero chance any leftovers of a benign mole will turn malignant. Each time I do go back, not worried about it because I can see it is fine, and each time it is declared once again to be benign. Doctor practice to be thorough. Do not worry.

Also, twitching does not only mean als or bfs. It can also mean ehlers dahnlos, fibromyalgia, isaacs, small fiber peripheral neuropathy, etc. So the neuro is likely trying to make sure we really have BFS and not something less dreadful than als but still not entirely benign such as the above listed.
