Hi there, I am not a med student, but I do have a degree in biological sciences. And, I know from my own doctor that lots of med students suffer from BFS. I have been twitching for 10 months and as we know anxiety seems to worsen our condition. I am sure you are under a certain amount of stress with exams and med school and that doesn't help, does it? Just do your best to focus on what you need to accomplish and try and ignore the twitches. When you twitch instead of saying to yourself "oh, no there it is again" Try thinking " so what, it means nothing". The mind is a powerful tool. Have you tried any relaxation techniques? I bought a CD of skilled relaxation/meditation and it does seem to help.Good luck with your studies and try and remain calm...that is the best advice for all of us BFS'ers.Linda

Hi Cindy, the CD is called "Letting Go of Stress" Four Effective Techniques for Relaxation and Stress Reduction by Emmett Miller M.D. and Steven Halpern. I think it is really good. Each technique takes about 20 minutes, so I usually just pick one of them each day. But, if you can find just 20 minutes sometime during the day for it, it really does help. I think I need to follow my own advice and play the CD this week!! lolLinda

thanks linda, ive had a pretty stressful semester. mum diagnosed with cancer 4 months ago and then my own SVT (heart rate went up to 200 in an instant and had to have it reverted in hospital with meds) episode a month or so after that. ive tried so many alternative healing techniques over the past couple of weeks and have found Mg (high dose and allow 2-3 weeks for it to kick in), anxiety meds and seeing a psych to have been working (fingers crossed as i dont want to jinx it)..anyway thanks for the support. will continue to followup about the techniques im trying.
