Long Day of Driving: Pain

Hi all,After a long day of driving Friday ten hours, I was exhausted. Didn't do much yesterday. Had a lot of leg throbbing in both legs. My left leg and heel and arch are continually throbbing and twitching and buzzing. Even burning. Atrophied calf hurting and throbbing and twitching. Now ankle hurting on outside of leg and in front where it attaches to foot. I feel this might be beginning of foot drop? I have numbness in legs too. And my jaw is stiffening again. I made the mistake of googling muscle atrophy and fasics and the first differential diagnosis is *** but nerve damage also on list. I cried most of day. I have a bad feeling about this EMG Tuesday. On another college tour now. ionyZarrion I am 48 female. The odds are still small, right? Victoria

Did your doctor have mention Motor Neuropathy? Alot of the symptoms you describe sound familiar with it. Maybe you can bring it up to him.

Odds are small Victoria.0.0001% You know how likely you are to die or become paralyzed after a driving accident in America? But you dont worry about that even though you have the "symptoms" a car crash i.e you are driving a car.You really don't have als. You just don't. If you type migraine and tiredness into google you will have meningitis.Come on now.Your emg will be fine on Tuesday..You do know that someone with als and atrophy would never be ABLE to drive for 10hrs right? Your being a goose. You'll see Tuesday. Bet ya anything.

Hi Victoria, I'm really sorry that you are feeling so bad. I know you are worried, but please try not to get too stressed, as you and I both know that will only bring on more symptoms. Just to try to make you feel a little better, foot drop is not something that there is usually any stages of, you either have it or you dont, most people just wake up with it one day. If you can still go up on your toes or walk on toes and heels then you dont have foot drop, promise :D) Please try not to worry too much about your EMG. Even if they do find something in that leg, that does not mean its ALS. You still have complete function and strength (clinical wise) in that leg, which are two very important, good signs. You've been told the same as me, that clinical weakness would have been found in that leg before any true atrophy. Remember, the whole calf would not shrink up all at once :D) I sent you a PM as wellTake care Victoria,,Robynn :D)

Hi,No, Barbie, my doc did not mention Motor neuropathy. I will inquire.ionyZarrion, thank you for putting it in perspective for me, youve got a great knack for doing that. I hope and pray that you are correct...Robynn, as always you are a life saver...Im calling you...Thanks to everyone for the hand holding...really..I feel much better...hopefully after Tuesday, I will be able to be the one doing the hand holding, instead of the one needing it...Best,Victoria

Hang in there VictoriaLike ionyZarrion said -all will be well as the chances are so slim-also keep in mind a 10 hour drive will make anybodys legs go numb-Like Robynn said Atrophy without clinical weakness is not ALS-you have a pinched nerve or something to do with your back-remember the saying: when you hear Hoofbeats behind you dont expect to see Zebras- David

One step at a time Victoria. I am sure you are fine. Please do not jump to conclusions (as I do) They serve no helpful purpose except to drive you insane with unnesscessary worry (as I do as well). The mind also loves this type of stuff, with the 'bad angel' regularly fueling any bad thoughts! I know because he/she ( being politically correct here) frequents my head often as well. The addtional adrenaline the worry/stress produces does not help the BFS eithertake a breath..one step at a time! We are here if you need us!Rodger

Thanks again, David and Rodger and all who respond and think of me......this is as much a mental issue as a physical one...I have been doing myself serious harm visiting other sites....but I vowed this morning to stop that, it just confuses and upsets me more...in 30 hours I hope to have a definitive answer about the atrophy...or at least know what can be ruled out....For today Ive got a lot of work, and I have got to take my daughter to the doctor, a sports injury....tomorrow morning is her driving test, then tomorrow afternoon my EMG...so Im busy which should help...My work is computer based so I will have to focus on it, rather than Dr. Google...and the *** sites...Hope everyone is well today...keeping the bad angels away and staying focused on the positives in life...Victoria

I know what you are going through. I´ve been there- still am sometimes. BUT - I have never read that buzzing, tingling, stinging or burning are symptoms that an ***patient experiences. This disease comes subtle, most patients don´t even realize that something is wrong until they have difficulty holding things or standing/walking. There is no pain involved.I truly do not believe that you have ***!!!!! And the EMG will prove it. Relax!

Victoria, we all know how hard it is waiting for the emg but I feel like everyone else here that it will be clean and you will be fine. God Bless you while you wait and be with you tommorow and I know you will be fine. Good luck and let us know how you do.Mary

Good luck tomorrow with your EMG Victoria, but I'm quite confident that you will be reporting back good news :D) My thoughts ans prayers will be with you.Robynn :D)

Hi,You people are the best! Thank you so much. I'm going at 2 today. And will let you know as soon as I get home what the EMG finds. I am having the migrating numbness and tingling especially much these last two days. And yesterday when I took my temp with a digital thermometer it was shaking so much under my tongue I had to hold it. It was also a strain to keep it there and caused my lips to get numb and jaw to tire. Worried about you know what. But no tongue fasics when at rest. I will ask neuro. Thanks so much for all the support. Victoria
