Hello everybody,i hope you can understand me, cause my english is not the best.i´m a 33 year old woman from Emilyomousey.I need some opinion to calm me and my fear.Try to make it short. All beginns 6-8 months ago, where i recognized that my legs feel weak.I noticed that by the stairs in our home and if i walk .But didn´t care so much about it, but this weakness didn´t disappear.the opposite, the weakness goes worst. Then my arms began to feel so weak, too. I have really problems to carry a shopping bag for longer than 10 minutes, my arms hurt if i wash and dry my hair...(today i´m not able to brush my tees without taking a rest)Next i have problems with my jaw, i couldn´t eat hard things like a raw carott. At this point i slowly get scared, then 8 weeks ago i have the first twitches. But they are really rare, not daily and if they come they just stay short. Then i make the mistake and i asked „dr. google“ and you know what diseases i found.....i totally freaked out. Sooo scared!!!!Run to the phone and try to get a date by a neurologist at once. But no chance, the first date i got is now 14. April.I don´t know how to deal so long with all my fear!!!Found your site a few days ago and read a lot.But it seems to me that you all have the major problem with twitching and not with weakness?By me the major problem ist he really heavy weakness which is getting worster and worster. And since few weeks i have sometimes light and short twitches. So i don´t know i could have bfs?Hope it soo much, but i´m be afraid that it is not.Maybe you could tell me your opinion.I would be very thankful!Wish all a nice evening....

Welcome, Tilly. My opinion is not going to hold much weight as I am no physician. You did the right thing by making an appointment. I can understand your fear and encourage you to continue to seek support and encouragement from the folks here. If your nerves get beyond you, please consider asking your physician for something to keep you calm until your appointment. Your weakness can be caused by any number of things and in most cases, it will be something benign. Your physician will help you identify the cause. Meanwhile, be gentle with yourself. Focus as best you can on the good things in your life and make every attempt to engage in enjoyable activities, laugh with friends and hug loved ones often. I think it was Kit here who said something about not seeing unicorns where there are horses. Try to keep that in mind as you wait and cope with this weakness you are experiencing. No doubt there is a simper, less frightening explanation. I'm so sorry you are feeling scared and worried right now. MAny here can certainly understand this.

hi nancy, thank you very much for your response!!!and for your so nice, friendly and supporting words.i try not to think the whole time about it, but this is nearly impossible, cause of the weakness.for example i´m going bowling with friends to have a nice evening with fun.it´s no fun cause i have problems to get upstairs, the bowling ball is to heavy for me.can only play 1 round and than i have to sit down.i read here about intolerance of exercise, but didn´t understand what does it mean exactly.maybe here is somebody else who have this heavy weakness, too?lots of greetings from Emilyomousey!

Dear Tilly: Welcome from Germany. I you will search back on this site, you will findmany who have had difficulties with weakness. I remember one post where the writer had to drive with her left arm because her right one felt so weak. Another said she had trouble shampooing her hair. The more anxious you get, the more fatigued and weak you will get. Also, read BFS in a nutshell and Kit's post on dents and atrophy. I am sending prayers and hopeful thought your way. :) Cindy

6-8 months you should now be near incapacitated if non-focal ALS. Everyone has had problems with weakness mostly due to anxiety not real weakness. See your neuro and an EMG but your gender and age are on your side. I have not heard anything about atrophy? Don't jump to conclusions. I myself have self diagnosed Lupus, Scleroderma, MS after consulting Dr. Google. The real doctors and test came back negative for all these diseases. It's a *beep* good thing I did not have a prescription pad. This BFS/BCFS is weird stuff!Zeke

Im no physician but the way you describe your weakness does not sound like clinical weakness associated with ALS.Are you walking abnormally, muscles becoming flacid or stiff like rock. Are you slurring your speech or having problems holding a pen or turning your door key without pain?Do you collapse and cant get up off the floor?BFS weakness is more like holding the hairdryer can be a chore-exercise becomes very difficult to maintain, legs go wobbly, fingers and hand muscles get fatigued and ache-muscles hurt and burn sometimes.

Dear scared, I understand your feelings of despair. You need to try and not focus on it, the stress will only make the symptoms worse. You don't want this to consume your every waking moment. BFS presents itself in a lot of different ways. Remain optomistic and keep your loved ones nearby. Don't go thru this stress alone, have a good cry, let it out, the stress will eat you up inside. I know I have been there and still battle the fears daily. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you!
