Knee Weakness - Experiences Needed

Hey Everyone,This weekend has really been a struggle, so I will try hard not to make this sound "scary" or anything. I have this thing though, that every now and then when I walk my knee will sort of give out a little. I stay standing, but its a little bit like when someone comes up behind you and pokes you in the back of the knee. It doesn't happen a lot but sometimes... is this a sign of weakness? :( Does anyone else get this?I have also been getting that weird sort of rubbery/tight/heavy feeling in my right wrist for the past week or so. Then it started feeling a little achy this morning. I have been able to use it just fine, but it just feels really weird, and I am scared that its the beginnings of... well, something awful. Has anyone had this feeling in joints/muscles, for a while, and is unconcerned about it.I have also had a lot of extra arm and back twitching this week and am worried about upper motor neuron problems :( As always, thank you all for all your help! You guys are life savers!Megan

Yes Yes and Yes. LOLOL The knee thing happens to everyone, it is kind of like a reflex. In fact, all of this happens to everyone at some point in time. I'm sure you have read BFS in a Nutshell. You are not falling down, that is weakness my dear. Smile..you are fine. :)

Hi Megan, Knees can give out for all kinds of reasons. Mine have been doing that on and off since I was in my twenties. There is a condition, known as "housemaid's knee" in layman's terms, that can create pain in the front of the knee and some sensation of giving-way. It is most often associated with frequent kneeling on the floor, gardening, overuse, etc. Weakness associated w/ **S wouldn't occur in a JOINT, it would happen in a MUSCLE. It may be just a minor injury, but if it persists longer than a few weeks, if the knee starts to lock up, or if you have swelling or pain, I would go to an orthopedic doctor. It may be that you need an xray, physical therapy, nsaids, MRI, or even a scope to look at the cartilage and repair any injured or torn tissue. And you already know that the twitches will increase along with your stress levels; or for no good reason, whatsoever. No worries. Blessings, Sue

Hi Megan:I know these symptoms can really get your mind working and when it does you start to feel weak and I have found its mostly due to the stress and anxiety caused by worrying about the symptoms (it's a visciuos cycle). You just have to have a great deal of faith that it is all from the bfs and that most of it is from the stress of worrying about it. The one thing we have control over is getting our anxiety in check, use you time to research a bit on what anxiety can physically do and when you see how powerfull it is you will understand half of your symptoms. The other half of your symptoms from bfs we can't do much with, not yet but we'll get there, but the stress, the worry, the anxiety, all has major physical symptoms and we definitly can win on that front. So Megan go after the stress the bfs is causing and you might find more strenght in it, the level of stress we have been under can make anyone weak, in the knees or many other places. Your knees my feel strong before you know it.Take it Easy,Lefty C

Agreed, I remember my knees going out on me sometimes ever since I was a kid. Nothing to worry about. If you injured it bad you would know. As far as the other weird symptoms go I have them too. The creepy crawly stuff annoys me the most. Although I think that is anxiety for me. I don't know. The weak feeling hands, I think is anxiety for me too. Hard to tease them apart, but when one goes away the other usually does too. Keep trucking through tomorrow will be better.

Hey Megan. One thing we have to remember on this forum is that not everything is related to this condition or can be related to other said dreaded diseases ok? Knees can give out. They can give out for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with this conditon AT ALL and my have everything to do with well...your knee! I agree with everything that Suzi said. It can be due to new shoes or different shoes or walking alot or doing some activity or sometimes it can just happen. It is ABSOLUTELY not related in any way to ALS or even for that matter in my professional opinion to this condition. The funky feeling in your wrist or as Suzi rightly describes it...wonky is likely related to this condition. And my dear you DID say you could do everything it just feels ...wonky. So again nothing to do with dread diseases which absolutely do not pick and choose random places to show up and do not vary in intensity. So take a real deep breath...now breath out ....and move on my dear you are fine.Be well,Smooches,Kit

Thanks guys, I know in my heart, before you even tell me, that you are right and I am either super paranoid or its just this annoying condition. Sometimes you just gotta hear someone else say it! I am working on getting to the point where I can adequately say it to myself... My husband as made me get up every morning and look in the mirror and say three times "I am okay, I am not dying".... who knows, maybe it'll work!
