Klonopin for Twitching Relief?

Hmm strange, Klonopin should help since it relaxes muscles, how long are you twitching?

I can tell you that if use use Klonopin and 0,5l of Beer - that do the trick. But I dont recommend it, of course. Alcohol will increase the effect of Klonopin - 0,25 mg is enough.

I have tried it personally once and then I didnt need it. It helped some of me friends who take Klonopin too.

One attempt wouldnt hurt you, its only one of possible ways that certainly isnt for long-time using.

Thx had...klonopin does work but I think I am already addicted to it...the twitching gets bad at night & I just can't relax. I'm not sure what to do. Does your doctor help you with the BFS? I don't know if I should stop the drugs. My husband encourages me to take them so I can get some sleep. Very difficult situation. Also, do you think exercise should be avoided? It seems to aggravate the BFS but I want to stay fit. thx for your help.

Be VERY careful with Klonopin - you cant make pauses in taking (I know what Im talking about). If you are addicted, then its not good - it doesnt help much(as my neuro said - it wont help and you cant be without it).

I dont know how many Mg you take. You have to decrease the mg very, very slowly -sometimes it needs weeks. I was on 2 mg and now (after 2 months) Im on 0,25 mg.

My neuro dont believe in BFS, also no help from him in this way.

You cant sleep just because of twitching or because of anxiety/fear?

Dear Had,

I have been taking 1mg. of klonopin. My gp also gave me ambien and lunesta for insomnia. I think the twitching started the insomnia & now it is ingrained. The twitching is very strong at night. I was afraid someone would say their doctor didn't believe in BFS. I have seen two neuros, one who left town for personal reasons, (saw him once & at first he said he thought I had ALS, but then said definitely no) and another who said I should just take neurotin for my twitching, without giving me a diagnosis. I didn't go back to him. I don't want to take drugs but I have to sleep. I feel so groggy all the time when I don't sleep, exercise doesn't help, not sure what to do. How do you get to sleep when your legs are spasming? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thx.

a lot of neuros will not call it BFS. this has been discussed before. the word syndrome is what throws them i think. my neuro called it benign fascicualtion disorder, close enough for me.

when i ask him about all the other symptoms, he says they can go with it. i go back in november and if there is no change in the physical neuro exam he will not repeat EMG though he could find a fasicualtion anywhere right now with that needle I am sure.

Yes, they dont call it BFS, they dont know what it is and dont want to say its due to your psychic - psychiatrist told me that neuros are pretty hard headed and try hard to find real problem, they just dont want to confess that there is no physicall problem.
I wasnt diagnosed too, he told me: It could be from your psychic. Or it could by Myaestenia...we will see on EMG.

About your insomnia: if the twitching is worse at night, its "good" (als twitch are still the same). In your case you should maybe try the combination Klonopin+alcohol (only beer or wine) just to see if it works. It should increase effect of Klonopin and together calm your mind down. What about Neurol, Lexaurin? (These are Europe names, dont know US names)

Rosebud, I would speak to your doc before adding alcohol to your nightly regimen of klonopin.

That being said, I would suggest a few alternative things to help you sleep, in addition to the klonopin (which I take on occasion to help as well.) I have used delta wave sleep CD's, breathing techniques to relax, reading, watching TV, and as some have posted here, just thinking good thoughts about others. They key is to get your mind off of your anxiety.

Also, drink chamomille tea or a cham tincture, or take valerian root (check with the doc on the valerian root when taking klonopin). Ambien has worked well for some on this site (which you already have.)

I also count sheep, stupid as it sounds. I usually count back from 100 and by the time I hit 50, I am out.

Laslty, and speak to your doc about this [before trying it]: Take 0.5 mg of klonopin before you go to bed and another 0.5 mg about 4 hours later (or when you start to wake in the middle of the night.) You may be a little groggy in the am, but it will wear off quickly.

I have had bfs for 9 months now. I have had insomnia for years, but thought I had it licked when the twitching started. Now I wish insomnia was my ONLY problem! I use ambien when I can't sleep and it works. I have found in the last few weeks that calcium orotate is working amazingly well for the twitching, not gone but tons better. The thing that worked for my anxiety, I had alot, was EFT, emotional freedom technique. It's strange but I have had it work on lots of emotional issues. I have helped my son with certain fears with it too. You can learn how to do it at , some people just refer to it as "tapping".

Hope it helps!
