Jaw Pain & Tongue Twitching?

I was just curious if anyone gets jaw pain that comes and goes? Is it a sign of something really bad? Also, is my tongue really twitching or do I just think it is b/c I am anxious? Anyone ever feel this or "think" it is twitching?Do BFSers get tongue twitching?

Jaw pain is not something I would worry about in terms of a neuromuscular disease. It is probably 99.9% associated with TMJ, teeth grinding at night, and tensing the jaw because of anxiety. Many BFS suffers on this board have reported feeling tongue twitching (don't confuse this with tongue movements when sticking out the tongue as this is totally normal). Search the board and you will see lots of posts. As far as not knowing if the feeling is really something happening or not, I thought maybe I was over focusing on sensations at first and that was all it was with me. But over time it happened on a daily basis and was at times intense enough and long enough for me to realize it was indeed a symptom connected to all the other twitching that came on around the same time. Sorry this is not more reassuring since you just have to let time pass and see if things become more clear. In my opinion, if you are not sure something is happening don't think it is until you are sure. If it is happening, you will know soon enough. Also even if you have the tongue symptom it is part of the BFS syndrome (see the BFS article on this site) and other treatable or nondisabling neuroapthies as my doctor tells me.Krackersones

Yes, many of BFS'ers get tongue twitching and have seen top neuro's and als specialists- the type of "movement" tongue twitching happens with als is ...is quite different than what we see. I have a friend actually two on this site let me take that back 3 that have shown ALS SPEC their tongue twitch and all have said "not what were looking for". Mine twitched on the tip one time and scared the CRAPOLA outta me, YES I Saw it NO it wasn't normal tongue movements but it hasn't happened again and I think it was almost 3 months ago.....Again like JRO said just associated with benign things unless your having HORRIBLE ISSUES WITH SPEAKING, SWALLOWING, CHOKING ETC. even then can be anxiety.Lovely ;)

Hi there,Don't worry about tongue twitching. That's where mine started. It went on for several months before it dawned on me that my tongue was twitching every day, always late at night. I thought all kinds of things - could it be a weird kind of seizure due to staring at the computer late at night?, a tongue aneurysm?, whatever. It didn't bother me until I googled it :( Still went on twitching for another month before worrying too much, then the twitching jumped to my right bicep, 24/7, for two weeks, then it exploded all over my body. I went through a horrible six months of testing, testing, and more testing, and the diagnosis is BFS and nothing but. While I questioned my doctors all those months, I couldn't argue with the results of the EMG so I put it all behind me. I still twitch 24/7 and have these strange jerking movements on top of it. It's like my muscles over-react to movement sometimes. It doesn't bother me anymore. Can't say I like the tongue twitches but it still happens from time to time (like today) which is why I still pop on this site from time to time. As far as jaw pain goes, I have it due to TMJ from wearing braces in the 70's. Jaw pain can be caused by all kinds of things. Spare yourself the anxiety. If you read through the stories here you will see that they are almost all the same. We just twitch in different places, and some more than others. Rest easy and get some sleep. Ally
