Investigating Neck/Head Issues with BFS & Tremors

I have been having slight neck/head pain the past few weeks and today I noticed what felt like a growth or tumor in my neck below my ear on the left side. I freaked out and headed to the doctor, and he said that it was probably just a swollen lymph nodes (he found a couple...)Now I'm looking into symptoms of this problem and trying to tie it all together with my other issues like BFS and tremors -- and now I'm freaking out that i could have leukimia, AIDS (somehow?!), lymphoma, or other crazy stuff. The DR. had me tested for MONO - but I don't have any of the other symptoms. I again believe the doctor is just giving me the easy diagnosis and i'm SICK with fear. I've had chronic prostatitis for 2+ years, BFS for 3+ years, and essential tremor for 2+ years. Now this.Anyway, I'm always trying to get to the bottom of this - I'm sick.

Hola Thomas,Please try to relax a little will you. About your lymph nodes.. that's pretty common stuff you know, I've had swollen lymph nodes literally a dozen times in my life. Anywhere, In my neck , armpit or even in my groin, it's just an usual inflammatory response to a viral or bacterial infection, it always goes away , nothing to worry Thomas. It is solid proof that your inmune system is working properly. Please Thomas, trust your Doc, he knows more than Dr. Google.BTW, Before my BFS I was a total hypo and Yes I always came to the exact same and WRONG conclusion that swollen nodes = HIV or Lymphoma.Advise : Turn off your PC, grab a beer and stop panicking about the only thing more usual and common than benign twitching : Swollen lymph nodes!!!!Finally and just out of curiosity ¿Are your swollen lymph nodes twitching? ......I'd kill for having a pair of twiching swollen nodes ( Sorry, is just that I kinda love my BFS!!!!!!) Adiós and the best luck,Eduardo

the issue that triggered my bfs was terrible anxiety about a suspicous swollen lymphnod in the armpit and another one in the neck that led the doctor suscribe a biopsy. the nods persisted for months, maybe even for years, and i was convinced i had lymphomia and only a few years to live as the descriptions in the medbooks perfectly fit my case. the biopsy showed nothing at all, just a swollen lymphnod for an unknown reason - no cancer cells. have done bloodwork including an hiv-test but all came back negative. was two days in hospital for nothing. try to relax, get well-examined and do a biopsy to get relief.

I have palpable lymph nodes in my neck and along my jaw. No doctor ever really expressed any concern about them. They are all pea size but still easily palpable. They have never grown over the years expect maybe a bit when I have a cold. I even had several MRI of the ones along my jaw because it is an odd place for lymph nodes and they don't even show up. Because they have not grown in size over the years they are presumed normal for me. I understand your worry but like everyone said swollen palpable lymph nodes are so common and if a doctor is not alarmed you really should not be either. I would not look into again unless they grow and don't go back down even after a cold etc. Even in that case they could just be nodes that stay enlarged after infection as some do.

I have had swollen lymph nodes that come and go in my neck for over 30 years. Yes, 30 years. Most docs do not get too concerned about lymph nodes in the neck unless they grow. Nodes can swell for many reasons...just a cold can do it. If your doc isn't concerned, try not to worry.

Thanks for the posts guys. I got tested for MONO and apparently I got a positive result for the antibodies of the virus.Scary part is I don't rememer ever having Mono symptoms.....and it can also produce a false reading for rare types of cancer and lymphoma, AIDS, and other freaky things! Of course....a test that DOESN'T ease the mind :( ugh!Follow up visit in 1 week.

a friend of mine had swollen lymph nodes as well, no other symptoms, no fever etc.... she was very scared because the lymph nodes were really big- it turned out she had mono.i had measles, mumps, rubella and even chickenpox without any symptom.; no fever no rash no blisters, nothing! when i was tested for antibodys it turned out i had it all and never noticed...you see it is of course possible to have an illness without typical symptoms!

WEll guys I'm on the verge of my first ever panic attack...almost about to throw up from the fear. The node is HARD and IMMOVABLE and pretty large too.....and reading online that is signs of cancerous node.I'm gonna puke. :( :( :(

I'm sorry guys if I'm seeming weird or paranoid buuut this is scaring the crap out of me. I'm constantly looking for causes of my BFS/tremors. This is freaking me out as the most legitimate :(

mine - infact it were more than one, but i have removed the biggest one - was hard, movable and 1 cm in size. according to the books that is suspicous for being cancer. as i have written before, they have found nothing evil. and by the way the remaining nods are still there!

Being freaked out is understandable. I have had lots of biopsies (moles, breast lumps, etc) and they all gave me concern. The good news is they can test them and tell you in a reasonable amount of time what you are dealing with. Having what you describe (just like an odd looking mole/freckle or breast lump) does not mean you definitely have something bad. When I had an ultimately non-cancerous breast lump removed, I expressed concern to the cancer surgeon that I also had a larger than 1 cm node in my armpit per the ultrasound report. He could feel it but I could not. He said more recent studies had shown that the size I had was not suspicious providing no other cancer was found. He also mentioned that he has had a very large, immobile node in his groin since he was in medical school and he is not a young doctor. He said nodes sometimes just enlarge and never go back down. He understands concern and believes in checking things out but reminded me that many times what seems bad turns out to be nothing to worry about.

I would submit that your node is a result of anything from a common cold (or just a common swollen node) to any of the worst catastrophic disaster scenarios that anyone can imagine. At any given time, any given human will have half of a dozen "out of the norm" things going on in his/ her body but they tend not to worry as much as we do. Until you know what it is (probably nothing) your worry is just paying the interest on a debt that may never come due. I've been so worried that I've thrown up... its a big BIG bag of suck (thank god it was years ago). Your worry and your fears are creating HUGE amounts of stress on your body and massive amounts of stress hormones and other viscous chemicals are being released into your blood stream; the effects of this stress can be irreversible. Tremors and muscle twitches suck - but they are normal - when you worry about them they will compound on themselves becoming tremors and such. Get your anxiety under control (easy to say - hard to do) and you will have decreased symptoms. DONT GOOGLE ANYTHING!!! - guys... seriously... SELF DIAGNOSES = SELF DESTRUCTRepeat after me: "I'm fine... this sucks... but most of it is in my head"

Not sure if you've had your f/u yet, but wanted to give my 2 cents. My dh had the same thing, only his right ear, hard, painless, immovable lump. It actually turned out to be a benign growth on his parotid gland. Simple surgery to remove. Just wanted to give u another possiblity that wasn't as scary as what you're imagining.
