i have been twitching sooo much less-- BUT i have been twitching MORE IN MY TONGUE SO I AM FLIPPING OUT........Please help-- i can not deal with this

I have had bad tongue days too with less in other places. Yesterday, I had hardly any tongue issues at all. We'll see about today. All I can tell you is that when I see the doc on 10/21 I will be asking a ton of questions on this issue. Describe your tongue issues a little more, I wonder how similar they are to mine. My tongue has been very bad too--for about 2 weeks. The one area along the left side burns and feels like it is twitching most of the time. The only time it really feels better is when I am talking and it is moving. Go figure. It is very annoying. My tongue jumps and quivers really bad when I stick it out but lays pretty quiet when it is down in my mouth. I have saw several real twitches (looked like an eye twitch) when t was laying quiet too. but FROM EVERYTHING i HAVE HEARD THE TONGUE TWITCHING MEANS NOTHING. You would have slurring AND CHOKING before your tongue ever started twitching if it was **s.I think our tongue has just become a hotspot. Sue

bk - You're going through all these symptoms like crazy (from one to the other) - are the docs giving you any test results that help you out? What ever happened to the results for your antibody test? I'm supposed to have a gad antibody blood test tomorrow so I am curious - hope it doesn't take a long time as things are not looking good for me lately......Hope your tounge behaves .....it doesn't hurt, right?

never did hear about the mayo antibody test-- have to call but it is anxiety producing to call and even think about the doc and office and als patients...so....does it hurt ? i dont think so....just random twitches.

Hi,Haven't been on for ages but was bored at work so decided to have a little nosey!!!.Tongue twitcher here for over 6 years, total years twitching 8!!. look it's a big pain in the *beep* but I',m still talking swallowing and eating (to much). I've read all the scary sites that tell you tongue twitching is a sinister sign, but its all rubbish. WEAKNESS is the problem when it comes to serious neurological problems NOT twitching. Try and hang on I do declare the tongue twitch is one of the hardest to deal with, it can turn you into a bit of a state even when you are feeling quite relaxed. RegardsSharon

thanks all-- the tongue is what keeps me from relaxing about this at all.....i just have the comments from my neuro--"i can't explain the tongue" ( after saying he "suspects" it was bfs........)........I check it out a lot-- i have twitches--most is a few a day in the tongue-- sometimes none-- but sometimes four or five--i have read that the tongue is another muscle etc but based on my neuro ( a good one ) and the darn thing i read on this website saying the tongue is sinister, i can't quite let it go.. ugh-- but your comments help me. thanks

When you say you "check it." I don't think that is an accurate judge. My neuro said that normal tongues twitch if you look at them so they have to go with atrophy or a tongue emg to see if there is a problem. Of course, if you feel them when your tongue is at rest, you will know there is something going on. Unfortunately, this is the case with me. I have felt rather than seen the twitches/nerve sensations. Have you felt yours?Krackersones

Stop checking and looking your tongue, please. Everyone of you. If you can talk, eat, move the tongue... you do not have bulbar issue. Nothing wrong is going on. EMG of the tongue is painful. You don't want it and it is completely unnecessary for all of you.

I just discussed the tongue issues in another post so check there for more of my thoughts. I didn't mean to suggest it was worse. I just meant that if you can't feel it then what you are seeing may be normal since you can see normal tongue movements. There may be normal tongue sensations but I never had these sensations before now and haven't heard anyone talk about normal tongue sensations. I'm still in the learning phase with this. When I reviewed the boards for tongue twitching posts, most of the posts were from people that felt the twitches. So there is the reassurance that tongue twitching that is felt is part of BFS. This is all I have to rest my hopes on right now. Of course, the tongue is a muscle and no one who said tongue twitching is bad can point to a reason why a twitch there would mean anything more than a twitch anywhere else. I think they just get your attention more because the tongue as a body part is so unique. This thinking is confirmed by the neuros directly asked about the issue so if there was more to say they probably would have said it.Krackersones

I have both the tongue twitches that I can see and some that I can just feel. Mine twitches when I am just sitting doing nothing, too. One time I actually saw the side of it twitching when it was laying in my mouth. Mine had been very bad--many many per day for about 1 week. The last 3 days I have not noticed feeling them but just very occassionally. My tongue always looks like it is quivering and twitching when I stick it out, but this was different. You just have to remember that your tongue is just a muscle and it gets alot of use. Everything I have heard is that bulbar always starts with slurring and choking--twitching comes much later!!!!! NOT A FIRST SIGN!!!!Sue

I've had ALOT of tongue twitching lately---don't worry, it's just another hotspot. Have been off of the board lately. I've been in and out of hospital with uncontrolled blood pressure & side effects of medications for BP. Also, my irregular heartbeat went crazy and had to be rushed to ER for IV to regulate it. Know that worrying about BFS, etc. is horrible for my general well being. My BP got up to 220/124. Was close to having a stroke. Still have spikes. Will write more later. Take care. Denise

Denise, I hope you get to feeling better. Folks, last Christmas I was totally wild over the tongue twitching. I couldn't go 10 minutes without going and looking in the mirror. That went on for 2-3 weeks and then just quit. I've had it come and go 2 more times. It just happens. It's BFS. It's not sinister when you've been twitching as long as we have and nothing has developed. BK: Quit looking :) You're only scaring yourself. You're okay, just a hot spot passing through -it'll eventually go away and you have one somewhere else. It will probalby come back again at some point and it will still be benign. You seem like a sweet person - don't let this thing keep you down. You'll be okay!!!BlessingsCindy
