Ok the past few days I've been getting a strange feeling of a hair on my tonsils .... It won't go away if I eat or drink. It kinda at the back of my tongue / tonsils not down in my throat... Does anyone else get this feeling ? I hope it's not another symptom of something bad !!! :(

So the usual rule is 'Don't Consult Dr Google' BUT I'd almost recommend it for this :) I'm 100% certain that this isn't ever a symptom of anything nasty. You may now get some people replying "yeah, I've had that" but to be honest you might get the same answer from a 100 random people pulled off the street. It's just one of those things, and it is easy to build a mountain out of a molehill when you are very focussed on every bodily sensation (and your hyper-vigilant mind will readily turn these sensations into symptoms).I hope you are able to put it out of your mind, if not your throat.GlowGreenPS Any comments only sound flippant because you have nothing to worry about!

Geeez ok... I thought it might be that globus think people talk about... I thought it was a lump in the throat but not sure about hair feeling on tonsils or do high up....

I had that for a long time and it was really unnerving. But honestly you have sensitive nerves that fire off at weird times (aka BFS), and the feeling of hair on your tonsils is pretty much by definition sensitive nerves that are firing off at weird times. By definition that is pretty much exactly what you have going on right now. What helped with me when I had it was Biotene mouthwash. That is specifically designed to help dry mouth (aka nerve irritation in the mouth) and it helps with the back of your throat too.

hi anxious, what you are describing sounds very like globus sensation! i didnt realise what this was until i came across this site.2 years ago i experienced this when i was promoted in my nursing career..i constantly felt there was a hair in my throat, drove me mad, hours of looking n mirror looking for that hair!!!it felt that real!!of course there was nothing there  i have had it twice since my diagnosis of bfs,i guess its all part of it  i dont know....anyway it should go soon enough if you try not to think about it![easier said than done]take care x

It is a classic, textbook symptom of anxiety disorder or severe emotional stress. Have no idea why those paresthesias happen exactly in the mouth and throat but this is well known and pratically reported by many of our fellows in a different ways - hair on the tongue, hair or small object in the throat etc.If you had any doubts before, you can quite them now - it just means that you need some antianxiety therapy. Of course it would go away on its own for sure (mine went away, but I was young and silly and it took 10 years of other unpleasant issues to come for therapy), but it just indicates that you have typical issue for that type of disorders.

Thanks for the replies guys.... The thing is I haven't been that anxious this past week or so and very much have been like my usual self again, why would this appear now ? I hate having more new symptoms !! :(

BFS isn't 100% dependent on anxiety. I mean, you never want to flip out and start panicking over anything, that is absolutely the worst thing a person with BFS can ever do. You have to learn to turn off that part of your brain. You never ever want to spin out of control over anything. However, BFS sort of moves on its own timeline. It will move around your body and do whatever it wants. The way I have always described BFS is that it is like a bratty little 3-year old who always wants attention. If your legs are twitching, and you don't care about it and don't feed your body with panic and adrenaline over what is going on with your legs, pretty soon your BFS will get bored and it will move on to something else. Okay, so your legs don't bother you. Well how about if I mess with your HAND. Then say you just ignore your twitching hand, and then your BFS will get bored again and will try something else. Okay well how about I mess with your THROAT?!? I know there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to back that up, but that is the analogy that I have always used when I describe my BFS. If I don't give it attention, it is going to start moving around and trying different things until it gets the attention that it wants. Your body (the bratty 3 year old) has decided that your tonsils are what is going to get attention from you at the moment. So the game now is to find some way -not- to give it that attention. Then it will get bored and your BFS will just move along to start messing with something else. This is the dance of BFS. It's not really scary after a while, but it sure can be annoying. Any veteran who has had BFS for a while will be able to relate to this.

And this is a typical issue too: but I am not anxious at all...well, as I say, you do not need to be in acute phase to get chronic effect :) Acute anxiety is really acompanied by swseting, heartbeat, pale face, cold hands, strong shaking, certain de-orientation and depresonalisation etc. but after being under pressure for a while, you progress to a chronic phase. Here yursymptomes are usually globus or fascial and oral parestheisas, autonomous system deregualtion issues become less prominent and may manifest as dizziness, vertigo etc., you may start to experience GERD instead of rapid bout of diarrhoea (known also as 'bear stool' and common for acute anxiety of shock), etc.It just indicates that you were under significant stress and anxiety for a long time so it is rather chronic phase for now. Good sign, to a certain point. Chronic phase means you really may have more chances to get benefits from therapy :)

I guess I can relate to all of that... This time it started out on my tongue and is still there but after a couple of weeks my legs were going bonkers and all over pretty much but I learned to ignore it and now it's the odd random twitch that doesn't bother me... My tricep went for 9 days straight with no breaks, that went away and a week later this and my tongue tip is rather persistent again... It kinda faded a bit but its back regular now.. I pretty much shook this off 4 years ago and was more or less trouble free from BFS for a few years... I want to shake it off again, it's strange how it comes back like that !

I had that exact same sensation for days a few weeks ago. Turned out I had nasty white stuff stuck behind my tonsils. I finally went to the dentist because it was bothering me so much, and that's when he found it. I forget the name for it, but it's very common. Mine went away after I gargled with mouthwash.

Ahh shell, I actually had white things on the front of my tonsils a couple of weeks ago ... but didn't know you can get it at the back of them too !! I thought the white things where always visible at the front !!! Ok that`s prob what it is then ! my tonsils look a bit red as if they are slightly irritated !!

Yup, those suckers can hide pretty well. I never would have found them on my own. I've had so many weird throat issues recently -- I can sympathize. Try the mouthwash and report back. I'm sure it will go away soon.

I will do just that !! I thought they were always visible on the front of the tonsils when you open up and look in !! My wife used to always get them years ago and she scooped the white stuff out with a spoon lol but as I cant see it I ant sticking a spoon in there to try find em !! Mouthwash it is or maybe salt water !!Thanks for the reply as I really didn't know you could have them and not see them....

I have had this before. And I've had globus. My globus was so bad that my throat hurt! The white things at the back of your throat are tonsil stones (yuk). Don't start focusing on your throat too much or you will start seeing things you think look odd. I did this and ended up rushing off to see an ENT. Eg I noticed the roof of my mouth was a weird orange colour and the back of my throat behind the tonsils had little white things as there were under the tonsils. All normal (that was my mouth cancer journey). The dentist is a good place for reassurance on mouth issues (mine knows I'm anxious) and bless her always looks really carefully for anything abnormal (including my tongue!!)

English twitcher.... I have had the white things before but I actually cant see them where they usually are so I am not 100% if I have them but I have been told they can be in behind...My twitching tongue tip keeps my focus there and I only thought about my throat when I had that tickle / hair sensation around me tonsils...
