Giving up Caffeine: My Success Story

Hey all...I just want to share with everyone that I have had HUGE success in alleviating my symptoms by giving up caffein!I have been off of caffein for about 15 months months and i would say that my symptoms have subsided about 95%!! My symptoms didn't go away immediately but i started to notice a big difference about 2-3 months after giving it up. everything just started to calm down at that point and now i rarely twitch at all. I notice if i'm sick or tired i get an occasional twitch but nothing like when it first started 2 years ago.For me, that means no ice tea or caffeinated soft drinks. I still drink decaf coffee even though i know there's a small amount still in it.i do not believe caffein caused my bfs but i do believe it exacerbates the problem. on a side note, my energy is soo much better since i gave it up. i used to get super tired in the middle of the day and now my energy level is great and i don't drag during the day like i used to.give it a try and hope others find some success from this as well.

socalman,Thank you for sharing your success story. Not that I wanted to hear about the caffeine connection - I love my java too much and can't get going in the morning with out it! So when I hear about caffeine, I go: "lalalalalala". Seriously, I'm glad you found the clue for relieving your sxs.

My neurologist also told me to stop the caffeine as it just made the problem worse. I have but have not had the big drop off in symptoms as you described. I too drink decaf coffee in the morning. It is great to hear that this simple adjustment can have great results for some people.Krackersones

I tried at the beginning (more than a year ago) but it didn't work. It's true that I haven't tried for 2 or 3 months, but... The only thing was that I was more relaxed (maybe too relaxed...)I´m very fond of coffee, but I try not to take more than 2 espressos every day. Of course, if I knew it worked, I'd probably replace it by decaff.Carlos

I also wonder how sugar intake might contribute to symptoms. I have made an attempt to limit both (refined) sugar and caffeine. Still waiting for the "Silver Bullet"!
