Find Acupuncture Reviews & Experiences

Search this site for acupuncture. Seems to be mixed reviews, which makes sense because I would expect there to be a wide variation in the skill of the practitioners. I personally know a few people who found it very successful for pain. I have a friend who has practiced it for 15 years. He’s also a Grandmaster in Shaolin Kung Fu and has spent many years in China studying traditional Chinese medicine.

I was surprised that someone in another post said it was painful. I’ve only had a single treatment (for something non-related to BFS, by my friend) and it was the most relaxing experience—not painful in the least. In addition to pain, it’s excellent for anxiety. Not sure about twitching though.

I tried it. I am a martial arts practitioner so it made some sense to me to try. For one day I thought it went okay and was helping ever so slightly. Then, my doctor told me it only works if you think it will work so it stopped working. he said it had no basis in fact and could not be supported by science. Hmm...

It is not painful. As Bill stated it is rather relaxing. Some points can sting a little but you will live.

No basis in fact? Sheesh! Western medicine!

I have had some success with acuncture. And for the record (IMHO) there are two kinds of acupuncturists: Those who don't hurt and those who are effective.

My acupuncturist studied in Japan and China, and founded the Northwest School of Oriental Medicine. He puts up to fifty needles in me for two hours. It hurts when he puts them in, especially in the ear canal, or between the fingers, and wait until someone puts a needle into the bottom of your foot!

But it can help. This is about electrical impulses, and your body is made up of an untra-sophisticated neural super-highway, with meridians that effect the matrix. It is logical that acupuncture wuld have potential to assist in calming, redirecting, blocking, or altering nerve impulses.

Also, acupuntcure can boost immune response. Acupuncture is like any other medicine, only as good as the skill, devotion and attention of the practitioner. It also depends on your basic physiology and makeup.

I would not consider an acupuncturist with less than five years working experience. I would prefer 20-30 years.

Good luck, this illness sucks.

I agree with that. It worked for me once a long time ago for a strain I had on my heel tendon. I went in almost unable to walk and left walking fine. My doc poo pooing it sort of psychologically set me back. That said, I got the feeling that this woman did not know why I was twitching and did seem a little perplexed by it. She said the liver was out of balance and needed treated.

She stuck these little bowels to me with fire too. I had huge sucker bites for days at a time. Found it relaxing and maybe just telling someone else the story helped plus she was an MD and told me I had no atrophy...I think everyone should try what they feel good about though...it can't hurt I don't think...

I have been seeing an accupuncturist for over a year now. Just started having generic fasiculations right after Thanksgiving.

I can tell you from my own experience that accupuncture works for me. It helps with anxiety and helps me relax. I think some body types are receptive to what it offers and some are not. It also depends on the skill and experience of your practicioner.

I would say find an experienced accupuncturist in your area. Try to get a referral from a friend or colleague. Definitely give it a try.

Also, accupuncture has been in practice and use for a whole lot longer than Western medicine. If it wasn't all it is cracked up to be do you think it would still be in use today??

I am also going in next week for my first accupuncture appointment. My naturopath that I have started seeing about 4 weeks ago also does accupuncture. I believe that this can help!!
The naturopath is also moving me along a nutrition route. The theory is that if I put my body under stress by eating hard to digest and non-foods (desserts) my body can not repair itself. I have decided that I am willing to give up the sweets and eat tofu if it helps with the symptoms.
