Experiencing Tongue Fasciculations?

Hi!I just noticed that I can provoke really bad fasciculations for 10 seconds or so if I forcefully flick my finger against my tongue. Has anyone else seen this too?

Twitchy doc can do that. I can provoke tongue twitches by yelling with my kids and caughing as well as matt, and if I remenber right robynn can induce tongue twitches by talking on the phone.

I'd recommend you stop doing that :) Many of us can provoke fasciculations by stretching, tapping, moving suddenly, etc. Im pretty sure you're the first person on the forum who attempted the feat on their tongue - you should get a special badge for that. Seriously, I would not be concerned. I know the tongue twitches are very very scary - they were for me and 7 years later I still have them. I also want you to realize that if you had a nasty disease that was impacting your bulbar region you wouldn't need to flick your tongue to know it. I have told this story several times but let me do so again because I think it's salient to the tongue issue which pops up frequently. My brother in law had myasthenia gravis which impacted his speech, swallowing, breathing etc. Now I know ALS is a different animal but both cause weakness. First my bil sounded like he had had a stroke. He couldn't swallow in just days. You cannot believe how devastating the weakness of neurological diseases is...you don't have to test too much to figure it out.My co-worker had a friend who died of ALS. Her first symptom was that she literally couldnt lift several fingers to type. You don't have to be a doctor to understand this weakness - it's profound! We spend a lot of energy doing self testing but the reality is that if something is truly neurologically wrong you would see serious weakness that wouldn't require interesting self tests to produce. Please don't worry...I believe you will be fine.

BTW, I tried this too and it set off about 10 seconds of fasciculations and twitches as well. LOL, why do we do these things? My tongue twitching has gotten so bad that I don't really have to do much to trigger them. If I use my tongue muscle, even slightly, it triggers about 10-15 seconds of a pulling twitch on the left front side of my tongue. Happens all day long and has been this way for a while. I've had daily tongue twitches for 9 months now. Uggggh.

Hehe, when I stick out my tongue and percuss its first third with my fingers (so the tongue hits the teeth below it), I get a LOT of fasciculations on both sides. Interesting that my wifes tongue does the same, however, to much lessed degree.

Soooooo relieved I found this post. I just randomonly tried this (flicking my tongue with my finger really hard), and my tongue went nuts all over. Creepy. Why does it do this?

I don't need to do much other than talk or poke at a tooth and the tip of my tongue twitches ... It seems to twitch in a few different ways, pulling up or down or just pulsing in the centre...Caused me so much anxiety this past few days as its now lasted about 3 weeks! It's good to hear there are other people with twitching tongues and it means nothing more than the body wide twitches I get all day ! I need to believe my neuro and settle myself that's its BFS !
