Climbing 12 Stories: Effects?

Hi all,

Last Thursday and Friday, the elevators in our building did not work and I had to climb up and down at least 12 stories (once each day).

After each climbing up and down, my thigh muscles "burnt" and my calf hurt (moderately) throughout the weekend. Right after the climb down, I felt like my foot after the heel strike phase wanted to come down faster.

A few months back it wasn't too bad and I could climb without this much muscle burning. I am very worried about this and wanted to solicit some of your experiences :

1. Does anyone feel this bad exercise intolerance after so little exercise ?

2. Although both my legs (and other body parts) twitch - for a few months my left leg has started twitching more. Do some people have widespread twitching but extended periods of twitching in one limb more than the others ?

Thanks and Regards.

Hi Desmo,

Yea, you know it's funny I was never too anxious about health stuff before this. OK during the SARS thing I had a flu at the same time and was on the web constantly tracking the thing, swearing that it was all just a matter of time
I definitely concur about the body mind connection in all this. I've been calmer over the past few weeks...sleeping better etc - and therefore dealing with my life much better. It does help my life which in turn I feel helps physically. Maybe that's why I felt better for those few days last week.
I've had massages and chiro appts and it all seems to be good. I'll see how swimming works out as well. You're right, when I was at my most anxious state, all bets were off as to how I felt feeling physically. It wasn't pretty. It's important for all of us to have a handle on that.

Take care,
Mark

Thanks for your replies. It helps. One thing that I forgot to put in the original post was that my pains are also asymmetric - more in the left leg where the twitching is more.

The fatigue and exercise intolerance is the worst for me too.

I get into the gym twice a week, but I can't do much, safely.

I ride my bike to work a mile every day, but peddle slowly.

I feel *terrible* (the just-as-if-I'd-run-a-marathon thing) every day,
all day, even if I do nothing my legs ache painfully as if I had.

Now and then I break down and ride the bike for a couple hours --
that costs me the next day completely, sometimes two.

But I'm symmetric.
