10 months with this problems. After twitches that don't stop on my left thumb, aching on my muscles, tremors, finger movements, muscle contractions, calves that don't twitch (a thing that worries me), proximal twitches, back twitches, stomach twitches, scalp twitches, CONSTANT RIGHT HAND DISCONFORT.Left calf 2 cm smaller than the right one. right first dorsal appear to have a dent when on certain positions. Left abductor pollicis brevis the same.So I went to do another EMG and that was the report:Abductor policis bervis D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Abductor policis bervis E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Triceps D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Triceps E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Biceps D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Biceps E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.First dorsal interosseus D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.First dorsal interosseus E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Tibial Anterior D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Tibial Anterior E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Gastrocnemius D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Gastrocnemius E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Quadriceps D: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Quadriceps E: normal insersional activity, no spontaneous activity, complete interference pattern.Comments:1) The nerve conduction study was normal.2) F waves has normal latencies.3)The monopolar needle showed eletrical silence at rest. During voluntary contraction it was observed motor unit potentials without significative abnormalities. (that significative is scaring me). Conclusion: The EMG of upper and lower limbs are normal.Time is passing and my emg reports don't change. (the without SIGNIFICATIVE abnormalities is scaring me, but I think it is my crazy head).I think with time I will turn into a Basso or a Arrom and start to joke when a person comes here desperate about having fasciculations. We newcommers can't understand the old timers when they come here so sure what we have is benign until we turn ourselves into old timers. Them the new newcommers will start to doubt us and the cicle repeat. When I turn a old timer I will help you EyeoftheWild, arrom trying to convince newcommers as me of how paranoid and obsessed we are.

Nocturniscope, your emg was normal again. That is all it needs to be. Except for the BFS you are fine. I thought your medication was helping with the syptoms last time you posted. Hopefully with time they will quiet down more. But for the time being after several clean emg's it is time to start beleiving them and letting go of your fear. As I have been told this is something we need to learn to live with and ignore. Hopefully this last emg will give you the peace of mind to help you do it. Good luck and God Bless. Mary

Hi Nocturniscope, have you concidered having an MEP-examination instead? Try Google it.I'm not suggesting anything, but an MEP will test signals running from the brain down your spine and in to your muscles. If something's wrong in that pathway, fasciculations could be the result. As I understand it, an EMG will test the muscle itself - not the 'signal-path-way' in your nervous-system.Kind regards,Peter

"he monopolar needle showed electrical silence at rest. During voluntary contraction it was observed motor unit potentials without significant abnormalities".I don't know if I am being crazy but the "no significant abnormality" is giving me headaches. What does this mean? that she found abnormalities but none of them was significant? What abnormalities?Am I being crazy?

I agree with Running Bear about the wording but still agree it is considered a clean emg. Why don't you call your Dr and ask them what that means. You have a right to know what they mean by it. Mary

I called her by phone and asked why she wrote this and she said without significant abnormalities is the same as normal. Them I asked her, 100% normal? and she responded, yes, 100% normal. But I can't get 100% relieved because of this.

If you can't get relieved by "100% normal" then the problem is now with you, not with the neuro report. What more do you want to hear? 105% normal?

I agree with Mario. You now know she said it was 100% normal now you need to believe her and live your life. You can't be any more normal than 100% :D) Mary

Get a grip. 100% normal and you have doubts? Just goes to show you how convinced you were that you were screwed. Keep reading it a few times and let it sink in. Time to let it go.

The problem is that for me if something is 100% normal I would write "normal" or "without abnormalities". I find it odd for a doctor to see a 100% normal emg and write "without significant abnormalities"."without significant abnormalities" is for me more like "I found abnormalities but none of them appeared significant to me".

noturnus,it´s just medical terminology! there are many ways to characterize a normal finding, they write it like your doc did or e.g. "without pathological findings",....you have to move on now, you won´t get more than an all clear.

Nocturnus.... you have had 5 normal EMG's. How many will it take to concince you? 20, 50,? I cant believe your doctors even do this many. My doctor would laugh me out of his office if I asked for another one and I only had 1 done 18 months ago. Time to move on from the ALS scare. You dont have it!!!!!! Just trying to knock some sense into your head.

I would have suggested ringing for clarfication. You have done that, with a good response. If it was me I would be very happy with that and move on. What else do you expect to happen??? How many opinions do you need to give you some assurity?? The anxiety your mind is creating will drive you crazy. You need to accept what you hear and be very happy with that. Distract yourself to shift the focus will help. A holiday, a break, keeping busy. Something to get you through what appears to be a very unsettling time for you. Dwelling and worrying will do you no good, no good at all. cheersRodger
