Bulbar Symptoms Getting Worse?

Felt loads better and twitches not as bad. Now I'm back worrying about bulbar.I've always had chronic throat clearing and nasal drip even as a child but I swear it's getting worse. Now when I talk sometimes my voice cracks and I have to cough. It's weird like it catches at the back of my throat. No problems with slurring, food or drink but sometimes I feel like I have to gulp and clear my throat all the time. My neck twitches occasionally as well, and so do my shoulders and knees. :(I don't have any tongue twitches from what I can see (quivers a bit when I really stick it out flat but it feels strong). I'm going mad. I feel really anxious that my vocal chords are weakening. Sorry to be so up and down but any advice would be great.

I had this, still get post-nasal drip sometimes, often get mucus in throat after meals, it's gerd or some kind of food intolerance/allergyi twitch sometimes in face/neck tooonly advice I can give you is that this is indicative of absolutely nothing sinisterdeal with your anxietyyou don't have bulbar

I know every ALS case is different, but from what I know about bulbar, I am sure you don't have it. Only 25% of ALS cases are bulbar. Over 97% of bulbar cases are in people over 50. Almost all bulbar onset starts with slurred speech. A relative of a family friend has bulbar, and she literally went to bed ok, and woke up the next morning UNABLE to pronounce certain words. Nothing to do with "weak" vocal cords. They took her to the ER because they thought she had a stroke overnight, and sadly it was bulbar. That is how quickly it generally progresses. Please look into meditation, yoga or prayer :)I know you'll be ok, you just have to believe it too.

This is so funny bc I just posted a rather long post about almost the same thing. I am getting these same symptoms! Now I don't feel so alone. It's so frustrating and annoying. The post above about the bulbar onset was quite comforting though! Thanks!!

Everyone thinks they have bulbar in the winter. It is just the way that BFS works. Go back and read through the history of this board (through the archives) and you will see this is the oldest cliche in the world when it comes to BFS. You will probably think you have bulbar next December too. And the one after that. That is why I listed "the bulbar cliche" as #1 in my "BFS FAQ" below, because it is that predictable. Here is the deal. No one here has bulbar, no one here has anything close to bulbar, and it is kind of an insult to people who actually -do- have it that we even consider ourselves in the same ballpark. What you have (and what everyone here has) is BFS in the winter. Which gets annoying. The minute the weather gets cold, everyone's symptoms go haywire. Probably because it is cold and flu season and we are constantly being attacked by viruses. However, the good news is that this is a well known phenomenon and it has been discussed thousands of times if you look through the archives. There is nothing seriously wrong with you. It is just cold and flu season and as BFSers we are particularly susceptible to noticing the slightest little change when our bodies feel weird.Hope this helps. Talk you again next December when you have your next bulbar freakout. :D)

Guys I came here with similar fears as my tongue tip was twitching like every 20 seconds ... It's calmed a lot and only does it a few times an hour maybe ... But it could be more but I try to ignore it...Even before that happened right about the birth of my daughter I started analysing my speech and thinking I was talking funny but no one notices and that feeling has been coming and going to varying degrees over the past 3-4 months ! I'm glad your saying it's not how it works as it's much faster so that does make me relax somewhat about that fear ... BFS is going to take me some time getting used to !! I fear something bad every time another new hotspot appears !! :-s I was also doing well until last night so just going to try focus and stay on top of it!
