Anxiety Causing Tongue Twitching?

My tongue started twitching in one spot on the left and I absolutly went off the deep end, staring at it and testing it 24/7.......with in days 3 spots on the left started twitching and still are. My doc thinks anxiety made my tongue actually twitch.......can this really be!? The more I dwell and focus, the more it seems to twitch so It made since, but I dont know......opinions on anxeity and twitching.........in specific locations ur focused on???

Who knows whether anxiety causes twitches or not, it is widely believed that it does. I do know this, the anxiety that you are now having will make your twitches a million times worse. You are now in phase two. 1. You have noticed twitching 2. You have gone through the process of self diagnosis and found out some of the things twitching is a symptom of, which has caused you to freak the heck out. The best thing that you could do for yourself would be to start reading on this board. Read BFS in a nutshell for starters.

Theres about a thousand things that can cause twitching, anxiety is one of them. Traveler is rite, if anxiety wasnt your cause, anxiety will make them 10 times worse, all your strength testing will make them 10 times worse. You obsessing over them will make them 10 times worse. You ARE NOT dealing with a big nasty here, promise, you just ARE NOT. Listen to and trust your doctors, and start reading on here and using the search function, you will be kept occupied for hours with stories that sound just like yours. You are going to be ok. :D)

Years ago I thought stress/anxiety was nothing. I thought people just made it up as a excuse for everything. Now, having gone through it myself, it is a very nasty thing that is real that can do damage to your body. I do believe stress especially if it is chronic can cause a variety of problems with the body.

Actually, it is believed that stress/anxiety worsen the twitching as the muscles are more tensed and thus prone to fasciculations. There was a study revealing increased number of emotianally labile people among the BFS sufferers.

Based on the past 7 years or so since I've had twitch, I find it is absolutely true that my twitching is SIGNIFICANTLY worse during times of high stress. I get more twitches (in more places), more often, etc.

Here's my take.Almost everyone on this sight will agree that stress and anxiety can make the twitches worse. Also, I think it is fair to say that in a person without BFS, stress can bring on the twitch or two or three. But I doubt that anxiety by itself causes a chronic condition of almost constant twitching in the body.I mean, no one is stressed or anxious all the time. There must be something that makes some people more prone to this.I can be completely relaxed and feel my muscles everywhere twitching away.Doc Oc

yes my twitching started 15 months ago when I freaked out and started having bad medical anxiety. Now this time I found my tongue twitching in one spot and went off the deep end and it instantly got worse. It seems that my twitching is far worse when I am freaking out than when I am having a brief moment of sanity;)

Anxiety causing twitching... in my case you are darn right it can! As I have said many a time on this forum, chronic, uncontrolled, bottled up, anxiety ( bordering on hysteria at times) for many a year, has set my nervous sytem up for a fall, a blow out, a cork popper. The result....BFS. System overload- and BFS is telling me that my nervous system has had enough!!cheersRodger
