Aluminum Cans and Twitching - Advice?

Ok people,

I know this sounds a little ridiculous, but my sister-in-law, who works at a health food store believes that aluminum is what is causing my twitching. I do drink a lot of soda from aluminum cans and I am wondering if everyone else does the same. I average about 2 cans/day.

Before, I launch myself into another riduculous scheme to get rid of this twitching, I thought I would ask about your thoughts. Do you think it would work? She also knew of some guy who had all kinds of problems and went to the dentist who removed all his metal fillings and replaced them with porcelain and that worked for him?? Talk to me about metals, but mostly aluminum. Thanks everyone.

Hey Dogbone!

I wouldn't lend that theory much creedance. I almost never drink soda, and I can't remember the last time I ate anything from a can!

I also (for cosmetic reasons) had my fillings replaced with porcelin back in 1995. So, I don't think this is the cause.

Okay, I've been researching this, because I've also had an immense amount of twitching all over and limb sorness and I'm super worried that i too have a disease that everyone on this site has worried about....

A couple people mentioned 'aluminum' and 'aluminum chloride' as a heavy metal toxin that has been directly connected to neuropathies, such as Parkinson's, ALS and Alzeimer's. The studies and findings have been going on since the 60's, but the FDA has not 'recognized' it yet as a proven 'cause' of these diseases - probably due to the insufficient resources and the Aluminum industry being very wealthy and powerful.

Furthermore, there was a big study about a sudden high number of people in Guam diagnosed with ALS - and what was found was high levels of aluminum in their blood due to the high levels found in the soil and water (which has now been decreasing as they're becoming more westernized in their consumption and purification methods.) Additionally, there have been numerous lab studies that have tested rats and rabbits who've been injected with daily amounts of aluminum and have shown to have the same degenerative effects as those humans with ALS. Also, individuals with ALS have been shown to have higher levels of aluminum and manganese in their blood, and low levels of magnesium and amino acids.

This is super worrysome to me, and although I'm trying to be positive, I've also read alot on aluminum in antipersperants, cookware (pans), antacids (TUMS), and drinking water, and brain cell's becoming 'plaqued' with this toxin.

So far what I can suggest is to stop using antipersperants - use more natural deoderants without aluminum, cook with glass and ceramic and try to consume/ingest as little aluminum as possible...ie: purfied water. Natural remedy books reccommend taking magnesium and vitmain B and C complex supplements, as well as foods rich in amino acids and antioxidants. I think some natural food markets also have an 'osteo and neuro support' supplement.

I'm still doing research, and hopefully doctors will incorporate more progressive methods soon and be able to find cures and preventions for these neurological symtoms and diseases.

If anyone has any other info, please respond!

From the latest research I have seen als researchers believe the cause of als is the accumulation of glutamate which eventually damages and kills the nerve cells. Glutamate is an amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter. Research into Huntington's disease is also showing problems with glutamate.

i don't think it's a high accumulation of glutamate in the body, rather a high level of it at the location of the anterior horn where the nerves are dying, causing mnd.

any ideas on how to keep glutamate up in the body or to prevent it from accumulating in certain areas?

i did find alot of studies indicating that amino acids were low as well as magnesium in ALS individuals and aluminum levels were up...any ideas on how to prevent this? less deoderant and antacids? taking amino acid supplements?
