Im sooooo tired of having this feeling in my throat, recently I just feel like I can't swallow my saliva anymore :(Sometime it feels like tension, sometimes like it's swollen, sometime feels like I cant swallow my saliva without drinking something and even couple of time some clicking sound..I began having this feeling 5-6 months ago, on and off.. more on then off though..I wish I could get this ALS idea out of my head and just relax  Does anyone have something similar as I?

I only have that when I am terrified or extremely anxious. For instance, once I start thinking about **S, I get every symptom you are talking about.I believe what you describe is caused by anxiety. Several people on this forum have described those feelings.I have noticed that when I focus so totally on any body function, it just does not seem to work as well. When I start focusing on swallowing, I have the same problems you do.

hi,i'm not keen on putting symptoms down to anxiety etc, but from my own personal experience this is one thing that I do suffer from when I'm in a real state of panic etc. It feels like a golf ball stuck in your throat, I had it badly a the beginning. Are you taking anything for the anxiety stress and worry this stupid symdrome is causing you.CheerioSharon

hi,it has been going on a few months, may be a good idea to run it by a gp. probably just need to get that anxious feeling under control.cheeriosharon

110% anxiety! Sometimes it can even make you feel like you want to GAG! Go here: Anxietycentre.com Read symptoms. You will see a lot of anxiety symptoms run along w/ BFS but the "LUMP in the THROAT " is a lot to do w/ ANXIETY!Lovely

Yep I know, I just have to relax. It's just so hard to not think about my throat. Now I've been having this choking sensation in my upper throat. ARRR!

Hi, I have had that feeling before. Last October, I had a lump in my throat all the time and every morning for weeks, I would vomit and gag. I started prozac 20mg in November and the lump in my throat went away---haven't had it since. What did happen though is I started twitching and that caused the anxiety about ALS. Now, I deal with that----seems like its always something.Cindy

A constant lump in my throat was my first symptom of my long list of GI problems (most likely caused by anxiety)! I 1st took Tagamet and Zantac prescriptions, (this was before the nexium type drugs were on the market--now take Nexium.) As others stated, it can just be anxiety also, without the Gastro problems.....Denise p.s. These meds are over the counter now; my daughter (27 years old) gets the "lump in throat" feeling when she's under stress and she takes one of the over the counter acid reducers which does help her.

Now i have a slight different sensation. Like the lump is on the back of my tongue, could my uvula be causing this? Also my tongue and my soft palate is always making this 'popp' sound, has anyone have that? (Like a little gasping sound).Like always I've been a mess, thinking it's bulbar als :(

hauk, have you ever been to a neurologist? i find that i should have went a long time ago when i first started out with everything- if not everyday your body is going to come up with different things because you are sooo hypervigilant about it. the best advice i ever got was to see a neurologist. (not because something was wrong) but to ease my mind and get the answers I wanted. i still have my days that i get anxious even after seeing her- but i went and picked up the notes (her notes) and I have them and i see that she did not miss anything...and i have in her words and writing, dx's BFS with Myokimia (eye twitches). go ahead and make a neuro appt. you will feel better i promise. you've already been twitching- so that is definately long enough for something to pick up in your reflexes or clinical exam...and if prompted a emg. however, bulbar is hard to discover via emg due to the tongue location..most of the dx of bulbar are clinical dx's. be sure to ask her/him about that.just make the appt. and get it over with..it will save you a lot of time and worry. *twitches may NOT be caused by ANXIETY , its a toss up...but they certainly get worse w/ anxiety and so do a lot of other symptoms...go to anxietycentre.com and look up anxiety symptoms...you will see the "lump in the throat" right at the top.Lovely

What you are all describing is a very common symptom of Anxiety NOT BFS, the reason you are suffering from it is probably because you are anxious about your BFS symptoms, its called Globus Hystericus.

Hi!I have also been experiencing similar problems. For awhile I had the lump in my throat as well which I connected to bulbar *** (of course). It was present pretty constantly for about a week but then went away when I stopped thinking about it and focused back on the twitching which makes me think it is very anxiety related. It is called Globus Sensation and is very common in BFS. I also have this weird mucous feeling in the back of my nose/throat. I like to describe it as a mucous plug. I feel like I'm constantly trying to swallow down mucous, but I can't. When it does come out, it is also very thick like some of you described. Of course I'm thinking it is related to me not being able to swallow as properly, but my rational side thinks it is related to dry air wreaking havoc on my nasal mucosa. I wake up every morning with a bloody nose. The dry air (combined with dehydration) can thicken mucous. Also, I tend to not notice it unless I'm thinking about it. I have also noticed when I am focused on swallowing, it makes a crunching noise/feeling in my throat. This is also common in people with post-nasal drip due to damage to the throat. So now I think all my symptoms are related to post-nasal drip and anxiety. I hope some of that was helpful. Best of luck,V

Hi, me again :(I feel like there is phlegm draining from the back of my upper throat and I can't get it out. It's making me talk funny sometimes, like when I talk it irritates my nasopharynx or somthing and makes me feel like it's a chore to talk.If I clear my throat, I talk fine. But only for a short while.Anyone had that? God I can't take this anymore :(

Unbelievable.. Now the back of my mouth feeling is gone and the lump in the throat (right under the jaw and migrating to the chin) is back! And when I say back I mean BACK! like never before :) (Although it's no laughing matter )
