Worsening Symptoms With Sickness?

Has anyone noticed that there symptoms have gotten worse when they get sick (e.g., a virus). My twitches had almost disappeared for a couple of weeks, then I caught a cold, and the twitches are back.

Also, I've noticed them in my upper abdomen (which is starting to hurt a little bit). I haven't heard of anyone getting hit at this site before. Any suggestions will be welcome. Driving me nuts right now.

One more thing, I was relieved to have had a clean EMG last week. But I was wondering if that could have potentially be the culprit in this rebound of fascics that I'm experiencing.

Thanks very much for any feedback,

JGB ;)

Yup. Any time I'm feeling under the weather (thanks to my little vectors of pestilence, the kids), I notice an increase in BFS symptoms. You will be relieved to learn that many of us here have had twitches in our ribcages, abdomens, and numerous more "exotic" places.

Can't address your good EMG question, because I haven't done that (yet).

Hi,

I've gotten many, many twitches in the abomen, under the ribcage, on the ribcage, right and left..etc.

When a cold is coming on or I am fighting one the twitches flare up big time..and toss a little extra stress into it and every part starts up again. I definately see a correlation with getting a virus and increase or a stressfull situation flaring the bfs up to a higher level.

Be well!!

Thanks. that's good to know. I've had this thing for months and the stomach fascics just started. Do you guys get pain/nausea along with this? Does anything help calm them down?

thanks
JGB

If BFS has an autoimmune origin, as many believe, it would make sense that during periods when your immune system is working overtime to combat a virus or bacteria that you would experience a flare up. The same goes for periods of stress. Although long-term stress causes a depression of the immune system, acute stress actually activates it.

I was just about to post and ask a very similar question. For the past three days or so I've had what I thought was the flu but now I think it's just more of the sinus crud like I had over the summer. (Staying out in the cold Saturday night observing didn't help, but I DO have my priorities! lol) I too have experienced a noticeable increase in calf twitching since this brief sickness came on. Coindicence? I don't think so.

In a word, "absolutely." Often times I think that after 7 years of dealing with this annoyance maybe it's finally relenting -- but then I'll get some sort of virus and it will be back with a vengeance -- usually for weeks.
