Worried About Hereditary Vertigo?

I've been diagnosed with Isaac's syndrome (two years now). But recently getting worried abuot my daughter and whether there is anything hereditary and neorologically linked going on. From an early age I suffered eposodes of 'true' vertigo, preceded by a strange feeling and a sense of absence, then the world would 'shift' sharply left to right. After these attacks I'd be vague, cold and clammy. My young daughter has recently started fainting fits (she's 9) and tells me she also gets the odd feeling first, then the room spins/shifts becfore she loses consciousness for a few seconds. Her family doctor says it won't be linked to my experiences and has poo-pooed any link to Isaac's/BFS. Yet it seems a strange coincidence to me that I had similar symptoms from an early age then aqcuired Isaac's later etc. I was wondering if others had any history of vertigo/fainting in addition to BFS or knew anything about hereditary possibilities. Thanks!

Hi TessI haven't seen anything in any of the literature that I have read that suggests that there is a link between BFS and vertigo. I haven't read anything about BFS being inherited either. I had never heard of Isaac's syndrome until I read your post but I have just googled it and, if I understood the info correclty Isaac's syndrome is different from BFS but forgive my ignorance if this is incorrect. I didn't see anything in the Isaac's sydrome info that linked it to vertigo and so I wondered whether you had two separate problems yourself (i.e Isaac's and vertigo). By your description, your daughter may have inherited a predisposition to the latter but I don't think that means she is at increased risk of developing the former. I guess girls of your daughters age are slightly more prone to fainting (hormonal changes in the body before puberty etc...) so maybe her symptoms are not even vertigo. I wish the two of you all the best with your health and hope that things settle down promptly.Kind regardsSimon
