Widespread Twitching, Weakness & More

Hi all,

I have been experiencing widespread twitching throughout my body. Primarily, the twitching started in my legs but has now spread to all parts of my body. It seems that no part has been spared and the twitching is almost constant throughout the day.

During this time, I have also experiencing a general weakness throughout my body. It doesn't seem to be localized, but rather an overall feeling of weakness. I used to exercise all the time but have now become exercise intolerant.

I have met with a Neurologist (who I'm not overly confident in) and had a 'normal' EMG. He didn't test areas that were experiencing the most fasciculations. Rather, he just went down my right arm and leg. At this point, he wants to see if my symptoms worsen because he really isn't sure what is going on with me. I have made an appointment for a 2nd opinion because I don't feel like I'm getting the attention my symptoms deserve. He recommended that I take B100 complex to treat the fasciculations...that hasn't helped.

I'm obviously very scared of *** because my symptoms very much mirror that disease.

My question is: Is it common for people suffering for BFS to experience overall weakness?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Ergo;

Firstly, I'd like to say that your symptoms are not mirroring "that disease".

Secondly, how long have you been twitching?

It's fact (read Alonzos BFS in a nutshell post for more info) that you would have weakness and/or atrophy BEFORE fasciculations began. Also, the pattern of them spreading bodywide isn't a problem. From my understanding, in "that disease" the twitching would be relentless in one area until that muscle is destroyed then move on. From what I've learned:

1) Fasciculations first are not ALS, as weakness occurs first and foremost.

2) Fasics can settle into any voluntary muscle for any amount of time and be accompanied by other fasics of varying degrees of severity elsewhere on the body.

3) You've had a normal EMG. You're fine. I've not got a Neuro appointment until February, and even at that I probably won't go. The fear is I'll be told something I don't want to hear ... negative yes, but that's the way I am at times with these twitches! I wish I could say I have a clean EMG under my belt, and that would depend on me being brave enough to go to the Neuro.

Hope this helps! :D)
