Welcome Newbie - Fasciculation Woes

Hey everyone,

I'm a 26 year old male, new to this forum. I've been experiencing fasciculations for about two months now. It started up during a major anxiety meltdown and has subsided, but continued since. They're occuring in both calves, mostly, with other rogue fasciculations elsewhere from time to time - thighs, forearm, shoulder, etc.

Of course, like everyone else here, I did an internet search which soon led me to panic. Everything I've read said fasciculations are usually not the first symptom of ALS. Since I've had the fasiculations for two months without any noticeable weakness, can I pretty much assume it's BFS?

thanks.
J.

Sounds exactly like BFS. Welcome to our ranks. If you haven't already, make sure you read the post titled "BFS in a Nutshell" by Alonzo. It's invaluable!

It might take a VERY long time for your BFS to subside (mine has taken a full year--and I'm now practically twitch fee). However, the less you worry about it, the less it will interfere with your life. Stay away from all internet searches on twitching....and solely rely on this site and the advice from your doctor for reassurance.

Here's hoping you gain peace of mind (in spite of the twitching) very soon!

Ah, yes, and also the lingo......terms like "hot spots", "it-which-must-not-be-named", "You-know-what"........we could practically come up with a Harry Potter novel of our own! :)

Have you discussed your twitching with a doctor or had an examination? I'm asking because it might help folks here to know a little more about your situation.

From the sound of it, you aren't complaining of any weakness which is a really good sign. Plus, your pattern of twitching and the onset after a stressful time is much like the descriptions of many here and on other boards who have benign conditions. Finally, your age makes the likelihood of ALS very remote from what I have read.
