Weird Vibration Sensation - Need Advice

This may be a silly question or maybe a question that has been answered before, but couldn't find it. I have had 2 EMGs per Doc, Benign fasiculations...I certainly am a pro at detecting a fasiculation, as I am use to all the thumps all over my body. But, I have developed this weird sensation, I don't know if it is a fine twitch or something else. But it feels like a vibration, as if someone would hold their cell phone up against my lower leg, it buzzes, vibrates for about 2-3 seconds, stops for a few minutes returns, I cannot see a twitch, if I put my hand on it, can't feel it with my hand..But it is definitely some type of deep muscle vibrating buzzing sensation. Maybe instead of motor nerve it is a sensory nerve. But anyway, my question is I know they don't worry about fasiculations on EMG, but the word fibs comes up all the time as a potential pathology disease sign. Could this be a fib, can you feel fibs?Any experienced EMG person, or anyone with this type of symptom, or any insight is appreciated. I have been at this for 3 years 2 months, I have accepted the thumping, hotspots as a part of my life, but this is different... Nothing else has changed, no weakness, same exercise (probably even more than last year)Hugs to everyone,T

There's been quite a lot of discussion about these buzzes - try a search here and you will see. It does feel very much like a cell or beeper vibration. One person's neuro said they were very fast fascics(twitches) of muscle fibers rather than the whole muscle. That is, if I understand my neuro correctly, the definition of fibrillation when you talk about skeletal rather than heart muscle. In the heart it is considered a problem. Many of us get them and usually they aren't something you can feel on the skin surface unless they are against the skin area. However, if you do press on the area the sensation usually stops. I haven't found them to be indicative of anything other than a tired muscle that perhaps needs some blood flow. Hope this helps - don't worry about it just give it a little pressure or rub.......

Agree wntirely with AllGoodHere. The 'BFS in a nutshell' post talks about this kind of fasciculation as being all part and marcel of BFSRegardsSimon

cck, I have the same EXACT sensations as you described. I get the buzzing all of the time but I also get muscles that "quiver" which, is the best way I can describe them. I get twitching all over too but this quiver sensation I get a lot in my thigh muscles and it almost feels like it is real close to the thigh bone. I cannot see the twitching but I definately feel it quivering. It sometimes will last for 3-5 seconds continuous before it stops. I was hoping I wasnt the only one who had this feeling but at the same time, I dont want anyone else to have to deal with it. Does that even make sense? lol

IMOK,Are you saying the buzzing many of us get are fibrillations? If so, this would seem somewhat worrisome since many are told the "bad company" neuros look for with fasciculations include fibrillations. I'm not trying to get everyone upset but I like to have as much understanding as possible. When I complained of buzzing and vibrations, my neuro said it is all nerve hyperactivity just different speeds etc. I thought fasciculations and fibrillations were different entities rather than different degrees of the same thing but I never really pressed the neuros on the issue. I will be sure to ask about this at my next appointment which is months away.Krackersones

No, the buzzing is NOT the same as fibrillation. Fibs can not be felt, or even seen; they can only be detected on EMG.The buzzing sensation is exceedingly common and documented on multitudes of threads on this forum. BFS in a nutshell also addresses this quite plainly. Fascics come in a variety of flavors; some buzz, some jerk, some feel like muscles or even bugs crawling, some are just garden variety fascics. They all s-uck, but they are all benign. It should be called Benign FaS-UCKulation syndrome, because of how bad it s-ucks, sometimes. No worries, this is one of the MOST common symptoms we all share. Blessings, Sue

Hi Jro - I'm not sure about all the specifics - just going on off-handed neuro comments so you shouldn't be concerned. SusiQ could be right in that fibs can't be felt. It is really just semantics unless you are Dx'ing yourself (stop that!!!) because we are dealing with what we feel not what is clinically diagnosed. I will ask my neuro to nail it down the next time and let you know.

IMOK, Thanks for trying to get some follow-up. I get a lot of off-handed remarks from my neuros that I lalso ater try to interpret and reconcile (since they aren't always consistent). I think the inconsistency is due to the fact that not everything is as fully understood as we would like.Krackersones

Thanks guys for all your replies....Yes, if you can get an answer form Neuro that would be great. I don't have anymore followups, don't want to go either. Done with that...I should of reread BFS in a nutshell. I find this buzzing more annoying than the thumps. I am going on third day of on for 3 seconds off for 10 seconds, very strange sensation.. I try to keep moving when I rest I can really feel it. Well, I hope this thing tires out soon. Thanks again all you guys, where would be without this site.T
