Weaning Off Tegretol

I am weaning myself off tegretol. At the peak I was taking 600 mgs: when I got up, return from work, and before sleeping. Then I went to 200 mgs in the morning. Now I am taking 200 mgs every other day. I have only 1 or 2 tables left.I am trying to step down instead if just stopping to avoid an alergic reaction. Tegretol has a black box warning that it can create a bad skin condition that has been fatal in some cases. Though the likelihood is Iwould have gotten that already.Anyway when the tables are done I am off...This takes a little bit of courage for me because tegretol had become a placebo. I was afraid to go off because in my view it did decrease my twitching. So do I still twitch: yes. Do I twitch less: yes. Was it the tegretol: I am not sure. When I am off the tegretol will I start to twitch more: I will communicate that in a month or so.Hope this info is helpful.-43RichyThe43rd

Yes, please share how your symptoms are effected by going off the medication. I hope it goes well. I went off Klonopin for 4 days to see what would happen and for the first three I thought I did not need the med any more, but on the 4th day all the weird restless nerve sensations that prompted my taking it in the first place came right back. It was the same sensation as before the meds so I knew it was not a withdrawal symptom. Well, I guess it just proved that the med is helping me and I still need it. I will try to go off again periodically.

So I took the last pill yesterday.I have been feeling a little numbness in my left hand. Which is interesting. Been having that symptom for about a week. Could be as simple as have slept on it wrong. Never heal SLOWLY.I am still not noticing my twitching much since going off tegretol. But time will tell. A little scared without it. I have been taking it for over a year. So it had become part of my life. What a nut I am.
