Weakening Progression After Drinking?

last weekend i drunk quite a lot of wine and stuff. I am not sure if my progression in twitching is linked with this but has become worse since. Any experiences?

Yes, alcohol affects the nerves, and even people who don't have BFS have problems after drinking. They end up with inbalances in their systems that lead to headaches and nausia, and for us the twitching can get extremely bad. You'll need to live without drinking from now on, and you won't miss it in the long run. Hey, they always told us drinking was bad for us, and there are many other things to take in that are much better. You should also avoid coffee and Coke. Stick to fruit juice and your twitching will feel better.

Count me in this BIG time, when i am actually drinking it seems to calm my twitching down a litte BUT when i wake up the next morning my calfs are going crazy, and i mean crazy, like 100+ big twitches a minute, its really scary to watch.Chris

Same here, If I have a drink or two then it seems to actually calm my twitching down a bit. However if I have anymore than 3 pints I know I'm going to wake up teh next morning with REALLY bad twitching.

Any dark liquors or beer will set off my symptoms; I can tolerate small amounts of wine and light lagers - vodka doesn't bother me if I don't over consume. Generally speaking, the darker the liquor, the more congeners (toxins from the fermentation process)it contains. These substances do affect your nervous system and also produce histamines which are the cause for the morning after headache. Matter of fact, any highly fermented food or drink will do the same if you consume enough of it. I posted a link from a study done at Harvard about congeners & hangovers a while back if you want to search for it. Dehydration also disrupts your body systems.....Amazing the stuff you learn when confronted by a rebelling/reactive nervous system. ;)

I've been tracking my BFS and alcohol and there is no question, when I drink my twitching is highly elevated the next day (or longer).I would like to know, and maybe there isn't an answer - but could my heavy drinking caused BFS?If I quit drinking alcohol (and caffeine) would BFS not only lessen, but reverse (go away)?Again, maybe unanswerable but does anyone know of BFS going away with lifestyle changes? Thanks,Paul

Hmm... I haven't observed any changes in the actual twitches when drinking or not drinking (even without a drop in several weeks). What is however interesting to note is that alcohol does calm down my anxiety a little the evening I drink it, but the next day I feel even more anxions and emotionally upset. This was not the case before my health anxiety became so extreme (because of the twitching first of all). My theory is: The nervous system calms down when drinking alcohol, but when the effect wears off, it gets fully reactivated with anxiety and all. This sudden change back to the previous state is exatly what makes the anxiety worse the day after drinking.
