Here's a link to a on of useful information... it reinforces things like, ALS doesn't cause pain, mucus in the throat is not a sign of ALS, body-wide twitching is indicative of BFS, not ALS, etc.

Glad I could help relieve some of that anxiety my friend ...

At first I was a little nervous but we played Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning, both of which I knew very well. Lars was REALLY friendly and Kirk was smiling the whole time because I was matching his chord structures in the "quite part" in the middle of Master of Puppets. James just faced the wall and sang REALLY aggressively. Every flat space in the studio had a beer can on it and the recording engineers were haveing a great time making obscene noises in the studio microphones. All in all it was a great experience but too bad it was under the circumstances that Cliff Burton had tragically passed away in a tour bus accident. I was a little older than you at the time and probably not ready for the lifestyle that touring with a metal band would require. However I did go on to do some recording with a Progressive Metal Band called Drastic Measures...

What type of music interests you most?

You seem like an articulate person, stick around on the forum. We'll try to be as much help as we can ...

Okay, I think I'm going to go insane!!!!!!!!!!! :( I was kicking a soccer ball around with my girlfriend yesterday, and I either sprained my ankle or experienced foot drop. This is worrying me to bits. Does anyone know exactly how I can tell the difference? I feel pain running through my lower half of my leg, and it hurts to lift my toes towards my head on my right foot. This is either a sprain or a foot drop, and I really don't know which =(

any help appreciated, thanks

twisted18....Please listen to troy, He can have a wealth of info. I too played in a band ( until last year ) The "lifestyle " often is not the best. You are very young and at 18 I really do not think your physically done yet with growing. Smokin the evil weed daily can cause serious Anxiety issues. IKNow. I have seen guys smoke all the time and up in the ER with pains, spasms, and fear and panic attacks.. Try cutting back and then quit. You don't need it to play. Reading about *** on the internet scared the *beep* out of me. Stay off thoses sites and stay here.

Troy,
That is such a cool story.

BTW, I had my 5 year old and 2 year old daughters singing out loud to Mater of Puppets and And Justice for All (my two favorite Metallica songs) in my car last week. We were coming back from seeing a movie and I was sick of the Ashley Simpson my wife lets them listen to. We were in my car and therefore had my CD collection with me. I said "That's enough of this, lets listen to some of Dady's music" and then first threw in GNR and then Metallica. I had the speakers turned up all the way and my kids LOVED it. After puppets was over my two year old kept on yelling "Master (pause) Master". I could not stop laughing.

Again, cool story.

Twisted,
I am so sorry I only relied to Troy and not you, so here you go.

Everything Troy said is 100% correct. If your doctor laughed at you, you should laugh at yourself for being so worried. I know that is easier said than done You have had a clean exam by your doctor and at your age, it is nearly impossible for you to have ALS.

Also, I know the wacky tabacky can screw with your nervous system. Did you mention this to your doctor? Just wondering if that may be a cause of some, if not all, of your symptoms.

Hang in there!

Again, thank you all so much for responding !!!

The only thing I actually forgot to mention to the Doc is that it's worsened after smoking up. This is very gross, but I recently had worms in my stool and am awaiting the lab results and will mention the marijuana to my doctor when I go.

Wolv: that Master of Puppets story is HALARIOUS ... My wife got us in trouble for cranking up Fear Factory (Demanufacture) while I was at work ... The landlord left a nice little note on the door ... She doesn't like Carcass though ... wierd ... Just the industrial metal ... Then she goes and slaps in a Mariah Carey CD and ruins everything ...

I also have the jerks you describes. I understant because they are somewhat different from twitches. My jerks are mostly at night as I fall asleep and my twitches are worse when I exercise.

Don't worry about it!!!

Just to let you know...

I've always been clumsy, dropping my keys, books, knocking the wine glass, etc...

Recently, I thought this was du to ALS. I told my friend about it and he said:"What are you talking about lefty, you'v always been clumsy".

He was right!
