Hi everyone! I havent posted here in a little while because I have been trying to work through this kind of on my own. For about two weeks now I have noticed my upper back crampingon and off and what I think is my diaphragm feels really tight and it seems to affect my breathing. I cant seem to get a good deep breath. I also get winded more easily. It almost feels like I am tight from left side of throat all the way to my diaphragm. I probobly dont have to say this has got me more than a little worried. Has anyone on here experienced this? Oh also it feels like my heart speeds up a little too. I would really like to hear from someone this has or does happen to as it worries me alot considering what it could be. I have been going at this BFS? hopefully for 13 months now and if you have seen previous posts I have and do have alot of wierd symptoms like most people here. I am on edge again and need advice and reasurance hopefully. Thanks for any replys! Barb

OOOOHHHHH yeah. I had it. You know what it was? anxiety. period. I mentioned it to two docs and neither one blinked at it. they never even addressed it. with enough wine and the realisation that you are fine, my money is that it will go away.I had the exact same symptom. It felt like my esophagas (spelling?) was tightening and even though I was in shape, I couldn't get a deep breath. You are fine.

I agree Barb that you are fine - this new symptom of yours does not indicate any kind of health scare, just the usual BFS and anxiety! In NZ we also occasionally use diaphragms for contracpetion... .I hope we haven't been talking at cross purposes here?!?!? You were talking about the anatomical diahhpragm, not the contraceptive one?!CheersSimon

Barb - have you even seen an anatomically correct drawing of a diaphragm? It's amazing - like a huge mushroom shaped muscle that has (this is the important part) 2 holes in it through which go your esophagus, trachea, blood to the heart. So when you (it) gets tense all sorts of weird issues can follow. Can you do some relaxation breathing to help? Gentle stretches? I get cramps on my sides and that involve my diaphragm - like a stitch in my side - can usually breathe them out if I can relax enough.

I would chalk these symptoms up to tension, stress, and anxiety. Take a look at your life lately and see if anything is causing you a little more anxiety. Have you been stressing excessively about your symptoms? If so, you need to figure out what works to relax you. Yoga? Xanax? Wine? A warm bath? A good movie or book? Sex? How about all of the above?By the way simon, I love the kilt!
